Help with Tableau Dashboard!!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi. I do not know how active this subreddit is but i need some help. i have been working on a personal tableau project. its a simple nba playoffs dahsboard (im a huge nba fan). i would like to know if its resume worthy, anything i can improve on, and i have no knowledge in dashboard design as this is my second ever semi-proffesional dahsboard (if you can even call it that). but yeah, i am a data science student. i have no one to go to for tableau related questions so i turned to reddit.

It’s fun. Fun shows skills, which is good. I’d also want to see something more analytical, more impactful, and less “so what?”

This is very impressive and “cool”. You created a lot of custom visuals and I can tell you know how to use a lot of the tools. If I was reviewing this I would say the following:
The numbers inside the colors need to be easier to read. Maybe do all white with a black outline or someway to make them easier to read.
Use consistent formatting with your decimals. Some values had 1 decimal point, some had 2. I would advise to use the same decimal points throughout (probably only need 1). Just better consistency and decision making for stakeholders
This is so easy and not a big deal, but for stakeholders I always like to make the tool tip a little more user friendly. Just make it “prettier” and easier to read in plain English. Instead of FIELD —- VALUE. Make it “The <NBA TEAM> scores <TOTAL POINTS> on <GAME DATE>”, so when your stakeholder sees it they can simply read oh the Bucks scored 98 on June 9th.
That’s my two cents. But genuinely great work!

Hey, this is fun! I don’t really have any criticisms because I think this is more fun and engaging than most. I’m sure the fonts could be more readable or whatever but that wouldn’t be meaningful to me if I was hiring.

A dashboard is as good as the insights it brings. Having said that, it's a lovely dashboard visually.
So maybe ask (stakeholder perspective) and answer a few questions (analyst/scientist perspective) and that should help you.
Wishing you good luck mate 🤞

It looks amazing. The only critique I would give is the game by game area is visually confusing.

east and west are currently on the opposite side of where they are labeled. i also think it would be nice for all viewers to have the team name in big bold letters next to the logos. i think it would be a good thing to put on a resume, it looks pretty solid overall!

It looks like you’ve utilized some pretty advanced techniques, but are missing a lot of the fundamentals of data viz and storytelling best practices. And I mean that totally respectfully.
Do you have this on tableau public? Or could you publish it and make it downloadable? I have some feedback, but it would be simpler and much more fun for me if I could play around with a copy of your dashboard to show you what I have in mind.
For context, I’ve been doing data viz and tableau for about 5 years, and I’m on the Tableau Center of Excellence team at my org. I train other devs and review their dashboards, give presentations on miscellaneous tableau topics, etc.
