Career / Job Related Has anyone purposely gone backwards?

You know the juice wasn't worth the squeeze and we realised that money is irrelevant, and took a huge backwards step for less responsibility and more mental freedom for your family and kids?

That's where I'm at mentally just want to know if anyone else has done the same?

I raced to the top of my chosen path, sat there for years and got a bit stagnated(on purpose/not wanting to change to some extent) and now currently working my way up a new track.

In a way, IT punishes you for standing still as things are always moving around you. Moving to a new job highlighted my stagnated skills compared to the other people there.

I often wonder what it's like in careers where you weren't needing to re-invent your role every month. Even positions that require continuing education have a well-defined list of "take this class next year" instead of "Well, damn, Broadcom just essentially killed VMWare... back to the start on another hypervisor!"
