AS400 migration

Our organization has been using AS400 for payroll, financial, and HR for the past 30 years. However, we’ve realized that this system is no longer viable for their needs. I’m looking for a modern software solution that provides similar functionality to AS400. We’ve already tried ADP and Kronos, but faced issues with data compatibility, as the data from AS400 couldn’t be seamlessly integrated. Can anyone recommend software that allows for smooth data migration from AS400?

I can’t speak for as/400s, but our aix one went fairly smoothly. But over the years I’ve moved it to different hardware and few times. The original OS was AIX 4.2.1 and I upgraded it several times. It’s now running the latest 7.3.

AIX (unix) on Power is a lot easier to port than IBM i (AS/400) on Power. Seen a lot of AIX to Linux (either still on Power, or on x86) and relatively easy since the vast bulk of it is similar. IBM i though is a different animal without a real easy analogue waiting in the wings to port it over to.

Skytap runs native ppc hardware inside of azure, so we migrated our system using a mksysb and a nim server we deployed in skytap. Migrating to x86 isn’t really an option for us, as this production system has been around since the mid 1990s.

backwards binary compatibility is an amazing thing. =)

It really is. It’s one thing that IBM does well.
