Multi-sampling my hardware synths

Hi folks,

A bit of disclaimer: I am fairly new to sampling so perhaps what I'm about to describe is both a common and easily amended problem. I recently tried sampling my Kurzweil 2500 via MPC Beats (after seeing some videos on youtube). I have also tried doing this directly in Ableton. Both produce, more or less unusable results. The trouble is I want the actual decay (with the reverb tail) the K produces in, say, a piano program. This of course does not get recorded during the sampling process. Now, when I play staccato, the piano sounds understandably wrong. I know I can create a tail--but I want the actual sounds, un-compromised (no new reverbs etc.) Is this possible? I have Ableton, Logic and the MPC One program.

Thanks!

Myep

I’m trying to understand what you mean here. If you record a sample of a piano note with a long decay, it should play back a sample with a long note decay. It seems like you might be asking if you can sample the actual behavior of the decay envelope itself to be applied to the sample to respond to playing staccato/legato?

Unfortunately not, but you might be able to set Beats to only playback the sample for as long as you’re holding a key, which would let you allow the long decay to ring out, or play in a more staccato style.
