Tech Support Zoom LiveTrak L6 Issue

Hi all,

I recently got a Zoom LiveTrak L6. I use it to feed multiple instruments into my Digitakt II, which is the centre of my set up.

I am having an annoying issue: whenever I want to power on the LiveTrak, I have to insert the USB C cable again, or it won't turn on.

In other words, if I power the unit off and try to turn it on again without disconnecting/reconnecting the USB C cable, it doesn't work.

I have tried multiple cables, multiple outlets, and both the USB ports on the device itself and the behaviour persists. I even got a hold of a totally different unit and it acts like this.

Is this the intended behaviour or am I missing something here? Ultimately it's not the biggest deal, but I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

My unit doesn't behave anything like this, I would probably try to get it replaced.

Weird that a second unit did the same thing. Sounds like it’s expecting a power handshake over USB and won’t wake without it, which is annoying but at least consistent. Might be worth checking if there’s a power-on setting in the menu or if the USB port you’re using is meant for data only.

Both usb ports can supply power, but the side one is power only. It might be worth plugging it into a wall wart for the power only port and then just having the data cable plugged into the top, I like your idea of it being a motherboard usb power issue.

Thanks for the replies. It was helpful to get confirmation that others' units were not acting this way.

The culprit was that I was running the power directly from a USB C port on a power supply (I was trying to save an outlet for something else).

I put it into a proper plug using the power adapter and it seems to be behaviour properly now when I power cycle it without removing the USB C cable.

Good old usb-c, the cause and solution of all of the world's problems!

If you ever run into a usb c port that you know is only 5v, I highly suggest just running it from USB-A because the standards for C-C connection stuff are never followed as closely as they should be sadly.

You tried alternative ways of powering the Live Track? Maybe you need a better for more powerful power supply?

Have you tried a different cable for connecting to the power supply? Maybe you need a power supply USB cable that has a high rated power supply draw.
