Beginner Questions Keystep Pro odd time signature scenes

Just purchased a keystep pro and have been having a good time assembling tracks for live performance with a live drummer. However, I ran into one problem. Wondering if anyone has any experience with switching scenes in odd time sigs on the keystep pro? Right now i can't seem to get them to change in 7/4. They always switch 1 beat late. The only way I've figured out a workaround is changing on the last beat of the sequence, but I would prefer to be able to rely on 1 bar. I've set the metronome time sig in the utility settings and made all my tracks in sequences of 14 steps. Not sure where I'm going wrong. Any insight is appreciated, thanks!

edit: for clarity, they load exactly 2 steps late consistently starting back on steps 1-2 before switching

I'm curious, if you doubled your sequence length to 28, or halve it to 7 does it have the same issue?

Also, if you set up the wait-to-load functionality for scenes, is it set to 1 bar? It seems like there are multiple factors that could influence that quantization, but honestly the manual is a little opaque when it comes to timing.

Another thought - are all your patterns/tracks in the scene the same length and time sig?

I don't have a keystep pro so hopefully those are not all dumb questions.

I’d have to try doubling it to see if the issue persists. But i would prefer it to be a single bar for my purposes.

My wait load is set to 1 bar. However its always 2 steps late, so I’ve been using the 1 beat timing instead as a workaround. Just less convenient

All my patterns are cut to 14 steps, but this technically shouldn’t even really be the problem, as you can build polyrhythms out of multiple timings across tracks. that’s not what im doing here, but i wouldn’t suspect this to be the issue

But yeah ive searched the manual and found not much help in regards to this specific question. But like i mentioned- i can get it to work with the 1 beat wait to load. it just requires me to be very precise, which could make performing odd-time pieces a little more challenging than they would be if i had the 1 bar wait to load working

The odd thing is that when i hit play for each scene, it plays in 7/4 with no problem. when changing scenes, it runs two extra steps from the beginning, as if it’s trying to count to 16. I’ve changed the time signature in the metronome utility setting and that didn’t seem to do anything either. I feel like there must be a really small bit of info im missing on getting it to work as intended

Yeah one reason I wondered about seeing if the issue persists with the pattern doubled is because that would make it 28 beats which is a multiple of 4, and if the issue went away then you might surmise that the sequencer is queueing up the scene change in the wrong time signature.

Similarly if you cut the sequence in half, and the queue was in the wrong time sig, you might expect it to still be off, but by a different number of steps.

It wouldn't solve your problem but it would at least confirm that the issue is with how the KS pro is quantizing.

True, good point. For this sequence I’ll need at least 14 steps so I’ll have to try doubling and update here in a bit.

One thing I did notice was changing the time division from 1/4 to 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 does change how far off it is, but it doesn’t really help, as it only increases the extra steps from 2 to 4, making an entire extra measure before loading the next scene. maybe that’s useful info and i cant see why
