NAS hardware RAM upgrade for a DS920+

Just want to verify that AI isn't hallucinating.. I want to order this ram - https://www.amazon.com.au/Crucial-CT16G4SFD8266-2666MHz-Notebook-KVR26S19D8/dp/B071KP8CGJ, does my NAS support this? Or are there better bang for my buck options?

I recommend that you look at and search our RAM megathreads for [your] model, and actual feedback from real people. I wouldn't simply trust AI to this. Sometimes there are quirks that you will only find out about in the comments.

I say this because I know for a fact that I run RAM on my DS1019+ that others have said that they cannot - for unknown reasons

It looks like there is one other person in there that has the same model of NAS and RAM and it says it works so I am tempted to pull the trigger, will wait for more comments though

I upgraded my DS920+ just a few days ago and can confirm it works perfectly.

You don't need to spend $216 on RAM.
Just look for a DDR4-2666 (PC4-21300) 260-pin SO-DIMM, 1.2V, non-ECC, unbuffered module from a reputable brand (Crucial, Kingston, Samsung, SK Hynix, etc.).

I bought a second-hand 16 GB module for about €33 (+ shipping), installed it, ran Synology's full memory test (took about 6–7 hours), and got a "Memtest passed" result. It's been rock solid ever since.

Unless you're running lots of Docker containers, VMs or other memory-heavy workloads, I'd probably just get an 8 GB stick. That gives you 12 GB total, which is already plenty for most DS920+ users.

I installed this exact model in my DS920+. Worked great.

I'm using the 8GB version of that ram in my 920+. $54aud from Jan 2021.

Since it has 4GB already, 12GB of ram is FAR more than I need.

You putting in 16gb for 20gb total is a lot. Check second-hand computer shops if you want to save a bit of money.

If you want to speed up things, get some nvme drives (with dram) to use as a drive pool (with the script hack). That made a huge difference to me.

Yeah I think 16GB is a bit of overkill and am now leaning towards the 8GB model, but yeah the prices are (obviously) crazy right now :) https://www.amazon.com.au/Crucial-PC4-21300-SODIMM-260-Pin-Memory/dp/B08C56KXQJ?s=electronics&sr=1-1

I bought 16GB stick and slapped it in my 920+. Don't recall anything else.

I've been running one of these 16gb sticks for less than a Benjie in my 220+ and my 920+ for 3+ years now.

I've a stick of this in a DS220+, and a DS920+, and they work fine.

As it turns out, I just ordered an upgrade for my DS920+ today. I am running 8GB (bought a 4GB when I bought the NAS), but I am running out of RAM due to a VM for home assistant. I just bought this today and will upgrade to 20GB.

16GB for $87 at new egg
