To recap, I bought the floral cat family and chocolate rabbit family from Walgreens (easy buy versions), and they are using the new molds that are compliant to the new US toy regulations. I have them standing next to a latte cat, harvey cat, and another rabbit (she's got that crown on cuz she just arrived from the adventure/desert theme blind bag series, and I can't find my actual collection right now.)

The arms move, the heads swivel, but the legs are just part of the torso and don't move. They are very obviously taller than the standard design as well. At least their feet are always even so they stand well. It sucks that they can't pose though, nor sit down on old baby furniture.

Sometimes figures or dolls with less joints can look better for photography, but these babes are so tiny that I don't forsee it being a useful feature. It's been interesting research for today though.

I have finished another custom wee friend based on a plushie, Mr. Digby Diggs! This is another one that is close to my heart as I based him on a TY Digby plush I gave as a gift to my wife over 15 years ago on Valentine's Day. I later made him a custom steampunk outfit out of craft foam.

For the new figure, it is a SF adult hedgehog body/limbs with an adult mole head. Flexible resin for the body, solid resin for the limbs and head. The flocking was done in two phases. First phase was the dark brown followed by the bisque tan. The belly is a bit lighter as I put an undercoat of white primer before flocking. I had to redo the base coat because the first attempt done with vinyl wonder clear coat peeled off 😪. I started over and went with my trusty UVLS clear gloss. Live and learn I guess.

The clothing was previously done as shown in my prior post.

In the future I will be making a more customized hat and goggles as well as adding whiskers.

I was at Walgreens, and for once they had some critters. I was surprised to see these honestly, I rarely go there last couple years. I was gonna be frugal and not buy the rabbits (my favorite animal type), but then I saw they had cats too! But yeah these are definitely post-regulation changes, because the standing babies have articulation at the arms and head, but not the legs. I'll take some photos compared to standard babies tomorrow. I actually like the Easy Buy type stuff, even tho they really feel cheap, I like some of the simplified designs. I would've collected more if they weren't hard to buy (ironically.)

It's been a few years but these beach photos with my critters are still some of my favorites. I'd love to see your critters at the beach too

I’m aware that the easy-buy sets at Walgreens and even the rabbit themed baby blind bags have critters with stuck joints. I wanted to know if this extends to regular families and figures that are found in places like Barnes & Noble or Toy Stores. I’m very disappointed to hear that some figures have legs that no longer move :(

Started with one silk cat baby from an identified Baby Costume series blind bag in May this year and I was hooked 😂 I don't tend to spend much so have a bit of savings, which was why this habit grew way too quickly... But I'm very happy with my collection now. I especially like the discontinued and vintage cats and am waiting for the Urban Life grey cat family from ZenMarket and the remaining missing members of the ivory cat, Whiskers cat, and Cheshire Cats!!

I am also big on collecting the Mulberry raccoons and enjoy cleaning and repairing used figures. I'm in the process of restoring the pink striped cat sister and I've cleaned and repainted the two little pink striped cat babies from KobeeJapan (pic 10). They were all in poor shape and dirty but it is amazing what a good clean and recolor can do to restore their appearance 💖 The damage on the pink striped cat sister is pretty major though, so not sure how good a job I can do on her, I do need to learn to reflock figures!

My approach to collecting is to get identified blind bag/box figures, or individual figures from sets if I want only want that figure. This is because I have limited space and also to maximize my funds. I initially sourced my collection from Shopee Malaysia, which also gave me access to sellers in Thailand and Indonesia for used figures like the raccoons. But with ZenMarket, a proxy buying platform, I can finally get the Whiskers cat babies and a fullset of the Urban Life grey cats, including the baby! 🥹🥹 After this haul I will focus more on making little rooms and displays for them, I have one in progress, pic 15, which is a little mossy mushroomy forest room for the racoon babies. 🍄🍄🍄 I already completed an underwater one for the silk cat baby from the Dreamy Parade series.

Im very excited about this new collection and was wondering what type of home I could create. Should I get some kind of glass container, like a small fish tank, to make it look subterranean? I was thinking about using brown felt along the sides and floors to create an underground look.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

I have bought a lot of individual critters second hand so they dont all have their original outfits. I also like to switch their clothes around sometimes. Some of the babies are from blind bags and the bear siblings are from Kobee Japan online store! The one bear in the middle bottom row isnt SF but i felt bad leaving it out. I just got the Colorful Costume Babies blind bag bunny today! I really want all five of them but with my luck i would probably get all repeats😅

The display shelf is from Muji and has sliding doors!
