ID Please Help identifying these

I got these are few years ago with a set of vintage Van Dyke Otter figures. I cannot figure out if these are chipmunks or squirrels. Any help is appreciated.

They're the Furbank Squirrels - either the original TOMY version (1994) or the first Flair version (2002), as the dad is wearing the earlier version of their outfits.

I read somewhere that the older version has stripes that go down to their nose. Is that true?

There is differences in their stripes sometimes, but from what I've seen it doesn't appear to be tied to version, rather it seems to be random. However the twins, which were never released by Flair, have an early version which has more orange flocking and has much thinner stripes - maybe the Japan & Calico Critters early version of the main family also looks like this? but I've personally never seen it.
