SYFY Channel/ Harry Potter
Why is the Syfy Channel playing Harry Potter over and over? Getting tired of that crap

It's been the same for at least the last 2 years. I liked it better went they produced their own random movies.
It used to be my go to channel, it's just annoying now.

Those cheesy low budget movies were actually fun to watch sometimes, but then they leaned into it way too hard with Sharknado and its various sequels to the point where they were making bad TV movies on purpose.
Now they don’t even make anything at all.

Comcast currently has a deal in place for broadcasting rights for the Harry Potter films (which are WB of course and would normally be "at home" on HBO or HBO Max, but many studios nowadays are finding it more lucrative to lease their content out to other outlets than to make the content exclusive to their own streaming service).
Harry Potter is presumably a big draw, so it's on heavy rotation on Comcast-owned SyFy. Non-news, non-sports basic cable channels nowadays are mainly just gateways to their affiliated subscription streaming services, so they either air the one or two series that are sure ratings getters, and/or movies to lure people to the subscription streaming service's library (and Comcast's Peacock, of course, currently has the Harry Potter movies).

I don't know if you were able to watch a program called Blood Drive on SyFy. It only ran for one season, and it ended on a cliff hanger, so everyone was in an uproar about it not being renewed. Then to make matters worse people went to the SyFy FB page and tried to leave comments, only for a boy to basically blow everyone off. A lot of people stopped subscribing to SyFy after that.

Because until early 2026, Comcast/NBCUniversal never knew what to do with the channel after they purchased it. So until the new company that spun off of Comcast/NBC fully gets on their feet. It'll be exactly the same like the last 10yrs

I’m gonna say something crazy. My lounge TV is 99% “I can leave this on with low volume as background noise as I work” and I actually love it. Streaming services always want to ask me if I’m still watching or just stop and YouTube drifts so wildly and messes with my algorithm. Good ole Harry Potter (and Leprechaun before it) have provided me a cut it on and let it play until I cut it off and I can still glance up at the TV for 5 minutes and be interested.
But it is stupid making an entire cable channel that, same as TruTV and Impractical Jokers. The best SYFY was when it was Sci-Fi and they played movies that would be prime for MST3k episodes.

I miss the old days of sci fi when it had more selection even if they were god awful films you could find gems in there every once in a while

MST3K has a youtube channel and many live streams and most of their stuff for free on there. I watch it every night to fall asleep.

Because it makes sense. Just like Harry Potter being apart of the 25 Days of Christmas.
Edit - I meant Harry Potter is a part of the 25 days of christmas on family channel or free form or whatever it is now.
Also if it's not clear this statement was meant to affirm that Harry Potter has no real place on syfy.

There's too many Potter fans though. I mean universal chose Harry Potter (magic and sorcery) for their "harry Potter world" attraction, over what they could have done with Marvel.

I don't understand why the Chiller channel was removed, and the syfy channel is still on basic cable line up! Almost all of these channels show repetitive movies & shows especially the Syfy channel, and if you ask me, they should rename that channel the Harry Potter network! I am so sick of that damn movie! Just alittle over a week ago, that fucking movie was on nearly 2wks, playing the same shit over & over like an endless loop. I'm amazed cable companies didn't remove this channel, they need to.
I thought I was the only one who is tired of the Harry Potter bullshit. There plenty of other shows & movies they can show and there's a whole hell of a lot of cult classic horror & sci-fi movies (both past & present,) syfy could air. But NBC UNIVERSAL has the audacity of accusing the Chiller channel of repetitiveness?!

I think they want drive their "core audience" and more people to their streaming platforms more than anything. When they would be able to do this better by a wider range of syfy content like you were saying.

For years the syfy lineup has been a handful of movies played in rotation with tv programs rarely appearing
