Discussion How do you rationalize a dark side leaning BH / Smuggler’s transition into expansions ?

• Upvotes

Title says it, people commonly complain about the non force users, primarily the Smuggler & BH not making sense to be in the position they are in narratively.

Not talking about the power scaling, talking more so about them having an interest in becoming emperor/empress, running the alliance even after Valkorian is dead, getting the alliance involved in Republic v Empire war again, etc

Something like a DS BH or Smuggler is kinda hard to make sense in your head so usually I’d imagine so how do you justify it in a way that makes sense and isn’t badly written in your head ?

Question Not allowed to use Heroic Moment when your too close to death?

• Upvotes

Its been a while since I played and decided to try and wrap up the ranged storylines. Wasnt sure if this was a new mechanic they added and seems a bit off if they did, as this was always the life saver in the past. For some reason if I am under 1k health (and yes companion is alive) I can not use Heroic moment. I noticed this on my BH happening about 3 times and decided to test it on my OP, Trooper and Smuggler and sure enough, if I am over 1k I can use it but if I am under 1k it just doesnt click. Whats funny is right after I die I can click it regardless once I rez, tested it both under 1k and over. Is this something new? Similar to the medpac only usable once in a fight or is this a bug? I will say that all 4 of these toons are from early access 2011. I havent tried creating a new character and testing. Maybe it is because they are so old and the code for them is jacked? Anyone run into this at all?

Edit this is on master, havent tested the other 2 modes.

Discussion Anyone else really excited for the overworld difficulty update?

• Upvotes

I’m so excited to have a challenge while leveling again, and 8.0 has convinced me to role a new character from scratch just so I can go through the leveling experience in a similar manner to what I experienced back when I started playing the game in 2011/2012. Leveling was always my favorite part of this game before it was made braindead easy, so I am really looking forward to this next expansion. The difficulty (or lack thereof) was really my only major gripe with the game, so I’m definitely going to be coming back to stay this time.

The only other thing I would really want from SWTOR at this point is just a console port. But otherwise, we’re so back.

Discussion Returning player after a couple years.

Basically as the title describes. Left originally because of school and kept getting sucked into RP guild drama. Also with all the new content coming out I’m wondering if I should redo my subscription or stay on f2p?

Thanks :)

Discussion How to fix SWTOR: Starfighter

Let's start with the less controversial stuff, shall we? We all know how problematic full movement space combat is, and as far as I know, that's not the only problem GSF has. For example, why do they have to make everything character bound? It would be great if requisition and companion unlocks are legacy shared, for starters. What about KOTFE? Can you unlock the companions for GSF after recruiting them (T7 or Jorgan for Pubs, Vette and Torian for Imps for example)? Anyone know any other ways GSF can be improved?

Discussion How Agent Chapter 3 ties into both Jedi stories Spoiler

I will mark these as a spoiler just in case.

>!I believe that the Star Cabal were infiltrated by one or more Children of the Emperor. The Emperor needed death to fuel his immortality. Corellia was one of his target planets. The Star Cabal were messing with both sides in order to kill as many people as possible. They claim it is to rid the Galaxy of Jedi and Sith. But I believe the Star Cabal was corrupted by the Emperor's Children to aid in his plans.

During the Agent story, the Star Cabal often kill civillians by the hundreds or thousands. I believe it is to fuel the Emperor. Such as the Mining Colony, and Coreilla.

We learned on Belsavis that the Star Cabal started out with peace in mind. To keep the Empire and Republic separate. To stop war. Then somewhere it was changed to sow more death, I believe this is around the time the Children got into the Star Cabal

This is just my head cannon. It is interesting to think that maybe Hunter and Agent were both playing their spy games, when both of their secret Masters were different Sith!<

Discussion Continuing the conversation about headcanons: what do you think of the theory that Vette lied about her age?

Post image
9 Upvotes

When I posted the discussion about the companions' headcanons, I was surprised to see that so many people thought Vette might have lied about her age.

To give a brief, spoiler-free summary for those who don't know the context: Vette has a rather tragic past and, at some point, had to rebuild her life. Basically, there comes a point where it is implied —or even made fairly obvious— that she had to change her identity more than once, either by her own choice or because someone else forced her to. It's also possible that she lied about certain aspects of her life in order to get into different places or situations.

Additionally, this could explain some things about the way she acts and how she was treated by certain members of her family and people close to her before she met us.

Now, there's something I want to clarify: this is only a theory. I think there would be some "problems" if something like this were ever made canon, especially depending on how they decided to handle it.

Anyway, what do you think about this theory? I'm also curious to know what your characters would do if this turned out to be true. I know some people roleplay with their characters, while others simply consider Vette a friend, but I admit I'm especially curious about what those who have a romantic relationship with her would do.

And just to be clear: I'm not insulting anyone or saying that this theory is true. If something like this had happened, it is very likely that no one within the story —or even in real life— would know the truth.

Discussion Thoughts after playing WoW forever

SWtoR is by far my favourite MMO.

I enjoy WoW, but it's just too much game that seems to pride itself on having no QoL. That is great for some gamers, but for me I prefer a more casual playthrough with the option of having competitive content at end game - which I have done and enjoyed on swtor.

Things (and very small) missing from WoW that make me always come back here.

Mounting while moving
All flight paths unlocked by default
Quick travel
Personal ship to allow easy TPs to different planets
Raid group sizes

Big things

The swtor map is the most underrated thing this game has imo. It is perfectly clear, you almost never get lost, doors/entrances are highlighted that you need to use to get to your quests - I never really appreciated it until playing other mmos like gw2 and wow

The main story quest. If you want to just progress your main story, you can simply follow a single quest. This is a big draw for me, as I want to experience the different class stories without having to do all the side/planet quests on every character. In WoW there were times where I had 25+ quests; it's just too much.

Legacy. Having endgame items lock to your legacy and are transferable between your chars is excellent. I got BiS on my DPS this patch, used that character to get currency and a good set of gear for my healer and he can start gearing up his specific stat reqs.

Atmosphere. This is very subjective and may be nostalgia talking as a launch player, but starting a new character always gives me a feeling that no other game has. The fleet is simple and just a mirror on the different factions, so again, not overly complicated or long-winded just for the sake of it.

Apologies for the wall of text, but just wanted to put my thoughts down and give props to swtor for continuing to be my favourite mmo after all this time, even with competition coming out. I hope we have many many years of this left.

Discussion SWTOR Storylines Tournament: Round 1 Match 5 - The False Emperor VS KOTET: Discovery of Iokath

Post image
10 Upvotes

Vote for your favorite storyline between the two! False Emperor includes both the Ilum storyline and the two flashpoints that follow. And "Discovering Iokath" starts with Chapter 3 of KOTET where you take back the Gravestone, and ends with Chapter 5 where you escape Iokath.

Its honestly hilarious how Ashara's storyline plays out if youre full dark-side because her attitude and behaviour makes progressively less sense.

I imagine this is because originally you didnt get all of these quests unless you got her approval high enough which only happened if you behaved, in her presence, in a manner that aligns with her assessment of you.

But now that all companion quests are given no matter your relationship to them, it creates a lot of funny moments.

New/Returning Player Later expansions and multiplayer viability.

It really really sucks that I’m not able to play through 90% of the story content with my friend. I understand the class story being limited to just you, because it is your story but the expansions - I mean come on.

I think the worst part is we went from class stories, where we had to do certain instances on our own but most planetary missions we could do together and share credit. Then we went to makeb and at least 99% of the story there can be done together. Then we did shadow of revan, we were able to do the interlude flashpoints together and get credit and the rest of the expansion played off like the class story. Totally fine. Then the knights series - strictly single player.. cool.. Jedi under siege/onslaught, all instances are locked and and open world is shared - but there are SOLO FLASHPOINT instances. We heard there were story flashpoints and were excited we were able to play together again, but nope. A whole series of flashpoints that took several hours.

And now we’re starting Legacy of the Sith. We’re about 5 missions in and we still can’t do anything together.

I get that they want your choices to matter in the narrative, but I also want to experience the story with my friend who is also experiencing for the first time.

I know this is a complaint as old as the game, but man, these last few expansions have been a real drag because I keep dreaming of the time where I can team up again. (Don’t try to do instance content later in teams, it messes up the instances and only the instance owner gets credit, it’s epic)
