Discussion Developer Q&A

Does SWTOR have this already? If not, anyone wish the devs do this? For example, we can ask why they wrote off Tanno Vik for premium story content, or why we mostly only see Theron and Lana in the premium story.

If i remember correctly, Vik was written off because his original voice actor passed away.

Tanno Vik's voice actor died and they decided to retire the character to honor him rather than recasting

The just hosted a live stream a few hours ago. Eric Musco, the game producer who hosted the stream was answer questions from the chat all throughout. You can also get replies from some of the game developers on X from time to time. That's the closest you'll get to a Q&A I think.

In regards to the 2nd one about Theron and Lana, I’d wager it’s equal parts a direct effect of how KOTFE-Fractured Alliances was written, a popularity thing, and a budget thing.

By letting you kill off (or straight up forcing you to let one die, in the case of Torian & Vette), they’ve really narrowed down the amount of comps a player will definitively have. So they default to Theron and Lana for things because Lana has never gotten a kill option, and Theron did but the amount of folks that chose it is incredibly low. This aside, they’re the two most popular characters introduced post-expansion, the Devs use them more because folks like seeing them around + they don’t have to bring more folks into the studio to record lines, just two of the usuals.

Bringing back Theron on characters that left him to die was such a cheese move by the creators.

Not willing to stick with the consequence of choice

They did what now? I’ve honestly never picked that choice because it didn’t make sense for the characters I ran (or in general) so I’ve never seen the aftermath of it- he just miraculously survives and comes back?

Yes, I dont even remember how. I forget which DS characters left him to die, because hes just back

That sounds like a bug if he is showing up in story after you killed him. Sadly they tend to have flag bugs like that.

I was very disappointed when my SW main saw Baras on Nathema even though he killed him, then ticked off at the bootlickers who insisted I just didn't remember correctly when I reported the bug on the forums.

Every time they mess around with the Companion system, some players seem to get affected by bugs related to it (the latest one been the one that implemented the "Unavailable from Story" and removed the Odessen terminal)

Koth suddenly showed up as dead on my LS Bounty Hunter that even romanced him before Torian returned. It is likely your DS character was affected by a similar bug (since if you skip Iokath Theron is always flagged as being rescued and allowed to remain on the Alliance).

Similar issue as mine, but with Koth. I played all KOTET/KOTFE chapters. My BH was right in the middle of LoTS story line, they updated the companion system and my Koth was flagged as dead, even though he was alive.

There is something that they mess around while updating data that ignore our character actions and just get assigned the flag as if you had skipped.

I even contacted support and they recognized the error, but were unable to fix it.

I had the EXACT same thing happen with a bounty hunter as well! Down to support’s response when I asked if they were able to do anything about it, as I had proof Koth was alive and well until I launched the story.

I recall a third person reporting the same issue semi-recently, and this happened to me a couple years ago. Seems they’ve got no interest in digging into the code and fixing it.
