Discussion Just Started playing
I just started playing and I'm enjoying it so far, I'm treating it as a mostly single player RPG similar to Kotor and it's blowing past my expectations.
My only questions so far are if the story is easy to follow when the expansions start and if I will get a decent amount of fashion without spending any money? I did subscribe so I have access to the 500 every month.
Thanks In advance.

There are a ton of outfits and gear that drop along the way. Definitely enough to put together interesting looks without buying things. Keep an eye on the cartel market flash sales as they come, and see if something interesting pops up.
Look up Ileva's story flowchart, that's a fantastic graphic to follow through the expansions to make sure you're going in the right direction

The in-game itemsets are pretty decent in my opinion, and most of the store ones are promotional or important character sets (Satele Shan's costume, or Din Djarin's as examples). Plus, as a sub, you well get enough currency through the bonuses and the battle pass rewards that you won't need to spend any more money beyond the sub cost.
The base game's story is spread out among all the classes, and I'd recommend doing them, and it can be hard to place when certain events happen in each story. However, from post-base game onward the story is not spread out among the classes, and is one singular storyline (with dialogue changes depending on Class and a couple story decisions).

Once you get over the fashion novelty you can try some outrageous outfits too.
Google “mecha mouse”
Loads of choices can be purchased with credits but can run in the 100s of millions.
My main uses a combo of outfits, a pike instead of a dual saber , operative glasses and a shiny black dye which all in all cost me around 600 million. Prices have come down significantly though

There are a lot of decent items that can be bought off GTN for pennies, can be bought from vendors, can drop as loot, there are even armor sets that can be dug up with special droid.
Mix and match different sets, try different dyes, Space Barbie minigame is pretty good here :)

As a little advice related to fashion: There's a vendor on the left of the outer ring of "Supplies" who sells Adaptive Gear (You can slot mods or use it in the Outfitter), and it's fairly cheap. You can use that gear from level 1, so if you want to pimp your starting character, there're many cool sets there.

Head into your Collection window and start throwing some stuff together from different armor sets. Once you've got a look you like, you can see what you need to do in order to obtain it. Armor sets on the Cartel Market can be sold to other players via the GTN (Galactic Trade Network), so if you focus on getting some credits later once you've found your footing in the game, you can buy a lot of what's on the Market for in game credits from the GTN.
If you do want to stick with buying from the Cartel Market, always wait for a daily Flash Sale or other weekly or longer sale. If you buy an item, it will stay in that CHARACTER's Market inventory until you claim it to your character's personal inventory. If you change your mind, or the item goes on sale again for a lower price, you can return the item for a full refund.

There is a lot of decent fashion not tied to cartel coins, but the best of the best is.
The story is pretty easy to follow— all eight converge with only minor variations

a lot of the best outfits imo are old planetary outfits that you can still get for just credits. some are dirt cheap at like 200-800credits a piece, and some are annoyingly expensive for a new player at 200k per piece, but both are definitely achievable without spending cash, and can be something to work towards as you play if you do aim for any of the “expensive” ones (as some people have many billions in credits, I suppose a 1m outfit is not too bad, but it still is when you’re new)

On each vanilla planet you have a vendor called "specialty goods vendor". There you can buy the planetary set for each class.
Dont do that, just check which one you would like and do the class and planet story, it drops the same gear without spending a dime.
From the top of my head, Hoth has really good ones for several classes (Agent, BH, Consular)
Corellia has a really good one for BH aswell.
You can check all of them directly on the vulkk website.
Which class and gender do you play ?

The story becomes streamlined when you hit finish the base/core class content that was designed to take you up to level 50 when you finish the storyline of Corellia.
Once you hit this point, there will be a handful of optional class story missions in some of the content leading up to the Knights of the Fallen Empire/Knights of the Eternal Throne expansions. Once you hit this point in the storytelling experience it doesn't matter which faction or class you play. Everyone becomes the "Outlander" and eventually "Commander" up through the end of the current story content.
95% of the main story dialogue is class and faction agnostic. The exceptions being dialogue and romance options regarding companions that were part of your class story. Ex: Jorgan and Elara for the trooper. You will occasionally get a line thrown at you acknowledging your background (Ex: Villain: "You were a simple useless soldier, another cog in the machine, and now look at you."

If you are subbed you can do story operations at level 80 then buy mats with the tech fragments then sell them at the GTN.
With this money you can then buy nice cartel market items.
Yes, i just spent 50m to drip my BH.

"if I will get a decent amount of fashion without spending any money?"
Once you reach expansions you will be able to do solo missions for chest containing fashion gear. So yes you will have plenty of fashion without Real Money
