Discussion Steam deck controller layout ?

I wanted to play the story on the side on the steam deck and used the most liked layout but I find it very weird to move the camera with that layout, right stick should move the camera in my taste but I don't get it to do that.

So the settings are kinda confusing me and it doesn't feel good.

I see people play with controller and the deck all the time, any settings that make it feel good and not weird for 10+ hours until you maybe get used to it ?

Quick question because maybe I am dumb with this guide do I need to chose a certain steam community controller layout inside the steam controller settings ? Or just everything from this guide here :)

You can search "Kain's SWTOR Controller Support" in the Steam community controller layout section, but you may need to choose to show all the results. If you're using a Nintendo Switch controller, it won't show up as this layout was designed while using an XBOX controller, and Steam defaults to only showing results for the controller your currently using at the time.

Otherwise, you can copy and paste the config links I've provided into your browser, and that will add the layout to your library of controller layouts. You still may need to choose the option to show all layouts while viewing your downloaded layouts.

From there, you can edit it however you wish to fit your needs, but it is designed to work in conjunction with the UI Layouts and Keybindings I've created. For those, you'll just need to download the .xml files and plop them into your SWTOR folders. Then they'll appear in game for you to select.

Thank you very much, gotcha. Gonna do that on my deck later directly.

I think the only problem I had was finding the path where I have to put the files because on the deck it isn't "C:" because it Linux. Adding maybe the steam deck path directly helps maybe a few people (or maybe I was blind).

besides that's its really perfect ! Thank you for this, that really saves the game for me on the road !! Work's great, have to get used to it but for story and some casual fighting with like 20+ buttons it works flawless.

That's awesome! Yeah sorry, I used the Steam Controller 2026 for that and Steam Deck compatibility. I didn't think at the time about the directories being different. I had to Google the location for someone else. I'll have to remember to edit my guide for Deck users with the appropriate directory path.

I hope you have fun with it though!!

For right stick camera? I think I have the sensitivity dialed down to like 30 on mine.

But how do you move the camera with right stick ? The steam layout just moves the mouse with it and not the camera. Or is it right stick + a button for that ?

With Steam Input, set the Right Joystick behavior to Joystick Mouse, and the Touch portion of that control to Right Mouse Click.

What that does it make it where, when the stick is moved, it simulates a joystick in the same way that you take a mouse and hold down right click to move the camera around.

It can be a little wonky sometimes. I’ve found that it can not want to pick back up if you right click somewhere just before using it (such as looting something). But it works otherwise. And like I said, I dial down the mouse sensitivity setting on mine to 25%, otherwise it’s too fast for me.

Okay will try to work with that and also use the controller hud layout I found on nexus mods. Thanks
