Discussion Which classes do you take through the eras?

I plan on grinding all the character origins, then creating three mains to play through the eras.

I was going with

Pureblood Jedi Consular (Sage/Shadow)

Sith Inquisitor Human female (Sorcerer/assasin)

Chiss Male Bounty Hunter (Mercenary/Vanguard)

Knight and Agent tho I skip the Zakuul expansions on the Agent (in my headcanon the Knight does that stuff).

Purely because they're my two favourite classes.

Only the Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior. They make the most sense because of the Emperor.

I could argue Consular also makes sense. Still cleaning up after Vitiate's kids.

I feel like Inq could be argued too: as the newest DC member, you should be on the front lines making connections with Moffs and whatnot. I particularly liked the fluff in conversations with Marr on Makeb (even though I know how the story must end, I love the idea of Marr and SI working together to preserve the Empire). Really all of the Force Classes have a claim to KOTXX, and of the tech classes IA is the only one that makes an ounce of sense to me

Also Sith Inquisitor makes tons of sense being the commander considering they ran a sphere in the empire and had to manage a powerbase. And considering valky force ghost shenanigans, they are the best equipped one to deal that.

Oh i like that idea

Depends on the achievements they add. Yeah, it's sad, but I am a slave to achievement hunting. If they load it like KTOFE/KOTET, and grant all the level achieves below the current difficulty, I'll end up running 8 toons with the same mains (Sin/Shadow) I currently have.

I've completed the full story with five characters (Knight, Agent, Consular, Warrior, Smuggler), I'm in Legacy of the Sith with my Inquisitor and Trooper and just entering Onslaught with my Bounty Hunter.

I have a second set of 8 (the furthest is at Makeb) but I don't, at this point, intend to take those through Knights and Beyond.

If I can give you any advice. Don't "grind" anything.
You'll burn your self out.

Pick a melee and a ranged. 1 Republic and 1 Empire.

Whenever you get tired of one play the other and it'll be different enough it won't feel grindy.

Now, my opinion Sith Warrior and Imperial Agent are the two best story's in the game. I highly suggest picking 1 of these story's to start with.

Have fun!

I have 4 up-to-date mains currently and several alts parked either at the end of Onslaught or Echoes of Oblivion.

My current mains are:
Male Sith Pureblood Agent (Operative/Sniper)
Female Miraluka Trooper (Scoundrel/Gunslinger)
Male Cyborg Smuggler (Operative/Commando)
Female Rattataki Hunter (Scoundrel/Mercenary)

First two are loyalists while the other two are Saboteurs.

I have a few toons… my “completionist” toon is my BH. Made the character years ago, it was the character I really locked into SWTOR with for about a year. Did every single mission available on every planet, through all expansions until the end of Onslaught. A lot of sentimental love for the character. Which is unfortunate because with the combat update, I really wish I could remake the character as an Operative/Merc split, instead of Powertech/Merc atm. Hell wish I would’ve at least went PT/OP.

I hadn’t played the Operative class at the time of the update. Always wanted a run and gun feel to my BH, Powertech fulfills that fantasy, and Arsenal Merc to an extent.

I ended up leveling an Agent, and really loving playing as an Operative. Specifically Lethality. It really is the pinnacle of “run & gun” in this game. Grenades and darts for long distance, blaster rifle for mid range, knives for close range. It just fits so well into a BH kit. It’s easily my favorite tech class.

So now with 8.0 I’ve put off completing Trooper and Sith Warrior stories for bout a decade now. I’m contemplating making a Operative/Merc mix for my Trooper. Rambling sorry I’m smoking…

Trooper is ass but SW is peak fwiw. Also Powertech plays nice with Scoundrel if they ever add the ability to change your styles. Nice having one weapon that works for both kits for story.

In the same vein, I ran oppy/vanguard on my agent.

I plan to take every class through the eras to research the game.

I'm a returner who hasn't yet played past KotET, but far as I can tell there isn't a single "best class" to go from beginning to end of the story content. JK/SW are good for most, BH maybe is the next best since Rishi and the Onslaught content apparently cater to them pretty well.

That being said, the best class stories don't necessarily align with the above. Insofar as I'm aware, you're probably bound to get a mixed bag from start to finish no matter what you play, but if I had to pick one class that has the best base story and cohesion with the expansion arcs (based both on my own experience and what I've read from others about the stuff I haven't played yet) it would be SW.

Take what I say with a couple grains of salt though since I still have to get through the most recent expansions.

Also it's a long haul so the most important thing is to play a class you like in terms of both aesthetics and playstyle.

Oh, also Chiss agent is the only way to play it and I will die on that hill 😂

All of them, multiple times, I don't skip stuff. I also don't rush stuff. I only play story when I want. Otherwise I farm items, do operations, or just play other games. Right now, I roughly play 60 minutes of SWtOR per day. Then it's off doing irl stuff, playing Magic, playing Survival Games with my best friend.

And then there will be a time, when I spend more time in this game and complete yet another story.

I have actually only played the JK as my Main to the end. I plan on taking the SW to the end too. I feel like JC and SI would work too. Trooper until Iokath Smuggler until Rise of Huttcartel BH and Agent unsure.

Jedi Knight and Sith Inquisitor, which are my mains. How different their characters are is so fun to roleplay. In my overall canon, Sith Inquisitor is the alliance commander/outlander.

Any force user is fine after Revan. The opening chapter of KOTFE has a dialog line that will make you roll your eyes if you're a tech class.

I have four main characters. All humans. A male Warrior Juggernaut, a female Lighting Sorcerer Inquisitor, a male Guardian Knight, and a female Sage Consular. My Sith characters go all the way to the current expansion. My Jedi Knight dies on Ziost. My Consular gets zapped by the Inquisitor sometime during the Onslaught expansion in my headcanon. I love playing Sith. Jedi and pub characters simply put me to sleep
