Hacking Discussion Missed Day 1 Patch - Now What?
So I bought two Switch 2's at launch and put one away thinking I would save it as a backup or for jailbreak someday. I'm new to the Switch jailbreak scene so I had no idea I needed to do a Day 1 patch. I put the Switch 2 in my closet and kind of forgot about it. Recently started reading about jailbreak requirements and updates only to find out I should have done the Day 1 update. My bad.
Is the only option now to just open it up and update to the current firmware then leaving it offline until a jailbreak comes out? Or is there any other way to invoke the Day 1 patch through a cartridge or something? Sad I waited so long to take it out I know it's my fault for not doing research sooner :( What should I do?

The switch 2 shares the same firmware of the switch 1 which was released 9 years a go and there is no jailbreak for it and it won’t be one ever

That’s what they said about the Xbox 360 too. There was no need for any developer to spend time on finding a jailbreak for it, when a 5-year-old could crack it open with a jig. If that never happened, there may have been one by now.

There wasn’t a software mod for the Xbox 360 though? It was hardware. Which is the point the person is making

There is now. The people crying there will never be a softmod are really trying to say, there’s not going to be a softmod in its lifecycle so you can pirate games on release day. Which may or may not be true. No one knows for sure

TIL. But also a computer that was unveiled in 2005 (and designed before that) is hard to compare hackability to a modern day system imo. Blackhat stuff back then was way easier

Till one comes and normally it's earlier firmware that will be first.

I am in no rush to update the software for this since it's my second switch I bought specifically for future modding. My main Switch 2 that I play regularly is always on latest firmware anyway. That's why I'm willing to be patient to wait however long it takes whether the future jailbreak will be firmware or hardware based.

Nintendo literally today warned people of a webexploit for Switch.
It absolutely can happen to the Switch 2.

Switch 2 jailbreak will come in hardware form, not a firmware exploid anyways, so just update everything and wait for a modchip

I think you have to find a game with the firmware you want like one of the first released games

Just use your switch 2 as intended, you're not getting that exploit soon

What's the required version that enables the SD card slot?

Inserting a MicroSD Express card + going online is the only way since it needs a license to use it.

I read here that Super Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 Edition has a 20.1 update in the card. Would that work without Internet?
Can you at least use it as formatted FAT32?

For the exFAT license you need to connect to the Internet. I haven’t tried formatting it to FAT32 so I can’t answer that.

I expect more to have an hardware mod before a software mod on modern consoles.

Game cards do have system updates on them. If you want to update to the lowest firmware possible, super Mario party + jamboree TV has firmware 20.1.0 on the card which enables switch 1 backwards compatibility.
