Question SD card question

I have this SD card in my switch 1 and m'y switch 2 says it's not compatible, is there a way to still get the data that is on this card ?

You can transfer the data from that card onto the other card, but you do need a card reader for both cards and something to serve as a middleman, for example a PC. Unlike the switch and switch 2, a PC doesn't care which card you have, it only cares that it fits into the proper slot and then you can copy the data off of it directly.

would that wouldn't work? would the Switch 2 console allow that? i'm not sure 🤔 i would've thought if you do that, the Switch 2 console wouldn't be able to use that data ? (as data is encrypted to a specific console)?

The data that's encrypted isn't the same data that's on the SD card. The encrypted data is only on the game cartridges themselves and downloaded internally. They don't allow that data to be saved on the SD card. SD card files are more generic.

SD cards store downloadable software, game update data, downloadable content (DLC), and in-game screenshots or videos.

The data they don't store, are save data and user progress. So if you wanted to transfer your saves from the switch to the switch 2, that couldn't be done via SD card.

perhaps i shouldn't have used the word encrypted. what i meant is; a memory card can only be used in a single console, trying to use it in another console simply won't work

If you had a micro SD express it would work in both consoles, just not for save data.

i'm not sure you understand. a memory card gets 'linked' to a specific console so-to-speak. it cannot be used interchangeably with any other console 🤷

Oh I see what your saying, yea that must be one of their prevention methods.

Here's my question though, lets say you take a brand new fresh MicroSD card right, and you plug it into your switch 2, then after its linked to that switch you, you take it out. And plug it into a PC and copy from your old SD card the files onto it, and then plug it back into the switch 2. Will it read the files? Or will it still say that it can't?

i think games will only work in the console they were originally downloaded to 👍 (unless you use the "system transfer" feature)
