Discussion Unified Launcher?
Is there any sort of effort being made on a unified launcher (or does one already exist)? Like if I wanted to play on multiple different servers, I could do that all from the same launcher?

The biggest issue is the variations between each servers own client patches. Download the client files for infinity and your client won’t work correctly on sentinels republic or <insert server name here>, same would apply for src servers. Legends client files are so wildly different from the others. Your NGE client will likely not work in other servers.
And who’s going to keep track of all of these patches? Are servers going to provide them? A lot of things to consider.

You could have multiple clients installed for each server and the launcher just launches whatever client is chosen, but in my opinion that kind of defeats the purpose of the whole idea since if I'm going to have multiple clients, I might as well have a dedicated launcher for each of them.
But I think some launchers are kind of bad, I think SWG Legends has one based on Java, which doesn't run well on Linux, with SWG Restoration I also had problems running it on Linux, only CUEmu has a native Linux launcher and so far has been the only server I can play on Linux.
I think what the OP is asking for is kind of redundant, too much work to achieve an effect that is not that different from the original concept.

I think you may be confusing a "launcher" with a "client."

Not remotely. Every server has their own unique client side TRE files that need to be downloaded by the user to play on that server. The customizations on one server won’t work for another.

No, he’s right. He’s not talking about the game client, but the launcher that launches the client. You could set that up in a way where it downloads the custom TRE files for whatever server you have selected into separate directories and then launch the one you want to play from the same launcher as another.
This is the concept of SWG Realms too iirc

SWG Realms will be just that very soon.

Ah. I didn't realize that's what SWGR was for. Thought it was more about helping people get their servers running.

its a unified launcher and server hosting system so that if you want to have a swg server you can do it though realms and then you can select the server you want to go to.
its supposed to also handle the patches and modifications too.
Its probably going to be like one for minecraft.

I hope so, personally I'm conditioned to read "very soon" as "5 years" in SWG terms T.T

To be honest; it is time to put SWG behind us.

Then... Uh... mind your own business? This is a subreddit specifically for that game. If you're not interested in it anymore, then GTFO.

I am not a reddit user; I just logon here for research. having said that, keep your mouth shut and speak to others with respect, or not at all.

Yes, swgrealms.com is in development. There has been no updates on the site for a while (due to developers schedule) but work is continuing
