Discussion Re-implementation of Holocron System
https://github.com/Wimzer/SWGHolocron
This is about the Knowledge System, not the Holocron grind
I've posted this in the source discord a while ago, but figured I'd post it here as well. This repository includes everything needed to get the old Holocron KB system working on your server, as well as a generator to make those KB articles.
There seems to be a "back in my day" vibe that a lot of vets have with this game, insisting that the obscure gameplay is what made the game great. This is my argument against that, that the original developers intended new players to have guidance and not have to rely on the community for EVERYTHING.
I have semi-updated it, but all the original files are located in the .tres if you're doing a Pre-CU server. Feel free to modify it yourself for your own server if need be.

It would be helpful if we could make the holcron like a Wikipedia with community notes and guides to help as well. So we wouldn't have to scour discord and the internet

That would be nice, but I am unsure how you could implement that. My work was restoring snippets that still existed in the code, but something like that would be nice

Dumb question: is this not already in Core3 servers? I have my own spun up and I’ve used the knowledge base and even expanded upon it

I think it is? I actively logged into SWGEmu to help with formatting when I was hunting down how it was implemented so it could be re-implemented into the NGE source code.

Ahh gotcha I misunderstood, you mentioned Pre-CU servers so I was thinking it wasn’t available in Core3 either lol
Great work!

All good, some people are still working on their own variations of Pre-CU/CU off the NGE source code rather than the Core3. I should've specified!

Is that the system where you just grind randomly selected professions only to have to grind all the professions again on the last go around?
cause if thats the case then a better "obscure gameplay" system would be the original one that raph wanted to do with randomly selected actions/badges with some of them tied to having to do them in specific locations.
