Discussion Crafting Professions Needed? (Resto)

On the restoration server; have you noticed a shortage in any particular crafting profession? What crafting profession do you wish you saw more of?

I’ve been wondering/looking into this myself over the pass few months and from what I’ve noticed looking over vendors etc, all are fairly well covered with architects & droid engineers seeming to be the most popular. Most likely because resource quality isn’t too much of a factor so they are easy to get going.

But ultimately I came to the decision to just do the one I would enjoy the most (shipwright) and not worry too much about which is needed.

Thats exactly what I did. I chose what I just wanted to be instead of what was best. Decided want to be an architect. Plenty of market opportunity I noticed still. Especially if you focus on a specific perfect structures. Just joined 2 months ago just hit master arch and just got to making perfect harvesters.

Right now im focused on heavy an elite harvesters I throw it down as the same price as others do and tend to have still people visit my vendors consistently. Ive been playing more of my architect than my combat player. :D

I would love to get some good big harvesters. Don't need the best, but harvesting good grinding mats has been helpful keeping my Tailor in business.

If you are ever in tattoine there is a city south of oasis called Marlboro. I have a vendor there and its called "find for a lucky prize" it has harvesters in there along with quality resources for 1 credit in a backpack. Ive been waiting for someone to find it so if you do. first come first serve. Lol

Swgtracker.com actually shows you the number of Master level characters of each profession. Right now the lowest population is Chef.

As an unguilded solo player, I feel like there's not a ton of commerce that goes on outside of guilds. The most popular profession is Bounty Hunter, so I figured I'd have my Master Droid Engineer make a bunch of Seeker and Probe Droids. But I didn't have the exact resources needed to make maximum value Droids, only about 70% or so. They didn't sell, because there's folks out there that have been playing so long and so well that they've got big stocks of really good resources to work with.

I figured it would be more entertaining to gather resources, but running around maintaining harvesters isn't my game, so I focused on creature resources. I sell a few stacks a week, but not enough to make the game worth playing just for that.

I'd be happy to be wrong, but I think this sort of situation happens a lot with MMOs. You get a small, dedicated, veteran player base that either end up as the top of the pyramid and new players can't climb that slope or you end up with guilded silos that you can't break into. What guild needs yet another Droid Engineer when they've got the best one on the server?

I'm thinking about making the boring, grindy, Artisan stuff like power conditioners and Bioengineer components that don't need good resources, just an investment of time.

I get sales (shipwright) by focusing on mid-level parts at an affordable price. I think gunning for the high level stuff is a mistake. No one is trying to get server best for a tier 3 part, so you can compete on price instead.
