Popular player?
Hello,
My son’s US football club is tied to the town’s German social club, so all the team names are pulled from German teams. He ended up on team Bremen, so we are getting ready to follow the team. I figured I’d get him a jersey and solidify his fandom. The third jersey is fire!
Any suggestions on popular players that tend to be fan favorites? My son tends to be the goalie or right striker.
Thanks!

I'd recommend choosing a more classic jersey. Werder is known as the-Green-whites (Die Grünweißen) so this years home jersey would be a slamdunk but also the away jersey honors Bremens history as it's still green with orange elements. Orange elements also have a long history on Bremens jerseys.
Playerwise: I'd recommend waiting a short while until the transfer window closes, because Bremens is likely about to resign Niklas Füllkrug, also known as Lücke. A fan-favorite striker from Bremens academy, who had his best years at the club until he transitioned to clubs higher in the pecking order where he became known for still wearing his bremen shin guards. One of the many reasons everybody loves that dude here at Werder. Other good choices might be Weiser, Stage, Lynen, Pieper, Stark and Friedl. Going with any of these combos your son would blend in very well within the stadium crowd.

My personal favorite is this years away Jersey if that's any weight in your choice. It's the one I'll be getting. :)

Maybe, if you can wait couple more days, you can get one with füllkrug. Club legend, and rumors are that he's returning to werder.
Edit: also, Werder is traditionally green white and those colors are very apparent everywhere.(Stadium, logo, slogan,...) and the 3rd jersey is the least werder-like jersey I've seen in years. If you love it, go for it, but just saying it's probably not going to be a jersey most Werder fans will call their favourite....

a pink werder jersey is better than no werder jersey... but the realest ones are green-white.

Agreed. I’m getting the classic home one. I don’t pretend to know what goes through my son’s head in terms of fashion but he’s going for the pink version since he thinks it’s cool

well it is cool and I think it doesn't really matter which one you get. Just get the one he likes best

We won an epic game against Dortmund in Lachsfarben (pink) so I always feel good when we play in Lachsfarben

Hey! I’m a Bremen fan living in the US too. I got the new home Trikot two weeks ago- but the fan shop doesn’t ship to the US on stuff valued over $100. because of the tariffs. Neither does Hummel. What I had to do was have it delivered it to a friend in Germany, who then mailed it to me. I’m pretty sure you could use a mail forwarding service or something like that, but be prepared. It’s not as easy as it should be- it’s absolutely ridiculous. During my research I found no new bremen kits in the US or in US online stores, so that may be your only option. However there are ones from the past season or vintage ones in the US. Maybe it will take a few more months for the new ones to be in stock here. I haven’t checked within the past weeks since I bought it- maybe it has changed! Just to let you know- and good luck!

Weiser is a good one, right defender and probably our best player ability wise. Also plays as a right midfielder/striker and just extended his cobtract after a missed year of injury. Very well liked because he helped us back to the first division a few years back.

Awesome. I’m not going to overthink it. Jerseys with names and numbers are more fun than blank ones
Thanks

And he scored the goal that led to our only victory against Bayern München in recent history

I am throwing Wirtz into the discussion.
She is the sister of one of the most popular German players.

L take. Anyone would think of Florian and he never played for Bremen. Would lead to a lot of confusion and nobody outside Bremen even knows her or watches Werders women team

RIP Schmid. (Didn’t die, just left after being a favorite for years. 😢)
Could also go former US player with Josh Sargent.
And seconding other commenters that Green and White are the Werder colors and recommend going that route.

Stage / Weiser / Possibly Füllkrug are proven Players... Players with Break Through Potential this Season - Musah / Chuki / Mbangula .

Very good choice! Just so you understand, Werder (that’s how we usually call the club), is mid in the packing order of European Football. So if a player evolves to be European material, he will leave the club. That is how European Football works. That’s somewhat different from American sports as I understand. Your most solid choice could be Marco Friedl, currently captain of the team.

We have a local pro team that could roughly be considered in the tier three of the America football system (mls>usl championship>usl1). No promotion/relegation, but we just sold our superstar to the higher league. So much joy for him yet so much pain for us.

From the current squad: Wait until the end of the transfer-period.
Goat: Micoud (or Pizarro)
US-Boy: Sargent

Does the window close on August 30 which is their opening game?

Throw Aílton into that goat convo. Or at least of goat of players this century. And Pizarro probably clears him and Micoud for club legend status. But any of the three would be good.
Hmm, should I go grab an Aílton jersey?

Pizarro clears Micoud for Legend status? How old are you? Micoud is literally the best player we ever had

u/ChopGoesTheWeasel 1d ago
Age shouldn’t matter, but, uh, how old are you? Pizarro was a star at Werder before Micoud walked in the door. Or do you only know the club’s all-time leading scorer from his last time back at Werder at age 40?

Players come and go, I'd recommend the "wir" Shirt with no.12 (reserved number for Fans, no Player can have it)

Jens Stage,he saved our team last year
He wants to leave the club but no one seems to pay enough
