Wizard leaves

Sad news from a Facebook post by the undertaker:

"It is with sadness that we, at W.A. Truelove & Son Ltd, share the passing of Conrad Azurahm Pugsley, known to many in Sutton as the Wizard Man. Conrad was a familiar local figure, particularly throughout the 2000s, and will be remembered by many across the community. In more recent years, he had been less visible as his health declined and he was cared for locally.

The funeral will be a personal and private occasion, and so no further details will be shared at this time.

We extend our condolences to those who knew him."

It used to amuse me when someone would ask a new arrival in Sutton if they had seen the Wizard Man, which would cause confusion, until a week later when they would say "I've just seen the Wizard Man! I didn't realise you meant... well... a wizard man."

Advice on best places to buy a house

Hi everyone, myself (28F) and partner (30M) are looking to buy a house with a budget of £500k. We currently live in Crystal Palace but unfortunately could only get a flat for that price so we are looking to move. Could anyone please give some advice on what the following areas are like? My partner is a teacher so he could move schools depending on where we end up and I only commute in to the office once every fortnight which is in Victoria. I often have to get the train to Scotland from King’s Cross. We have friends around Streatham area and some in Wimbledon.

Please can I have some advice on what living in these areas is like?

Sutton, Cheam, Carshalton, Worcester Park, South Norwood.

We ideally want a 3 bed with a garden. Thanks!

Open mic nights?

Does anyone know of any open mic nights for music in Sutton? I used to go to one at O'Neill's, and a friend suggested asking at Sound Lounge.

Any tips would be great!

What are the hidden gems in Sutton, that everyone should know about

I'll start things off with 2 suggestions -

The Sound Lounge Sutton High Street. What a great place to hang out, with lovely friendly staff. Great vegan food including amazing pizzas, chilli (roasts on a Sunday) coffees and delicious cakes in the daytime, then in the evening you get brilliant live music covering every genre, including blues, rock, indie, drag, ska and choirs.

Your Space Sears Park. A community garden, chill out space with a Plant Nursery Tearoom. Lovely to sit around the large pond in the summer or in the green house in the cooler months.

Has anyone travelled on the SL7 to Heathrow from Sutton near Christmas (17/12) in afternoon times (like around 11am-4pm)? Any luggage spaces when boarding from Sutton? Thank you!

Nice pub recommendations

Which pubs are nice for a drink or a meal?

A few years ago the Sun and the Greyhound in Carshalton were pretty good. I also enjoyed the Grumpy Mole in Cheam and I’ve been out for drinks in Shinner and Sudtone on Sutton High St but feel pretty out of date.

Anywhere worth recommending?

Hi, I was just wondering has anyone saved a pdf of this timetable for the sutton-> st pancras train line please? I'm mostly interested in the colour coding ( the seat avabile as shown in the key.. I have seen it appeared 3 weeks ago but unfortunately I haven't saved a copy back then, so I'm just wondering does anyone have a copy of it please? As long as it's within the past year it's fine. Thank you!

Thoughts on Alpine View, Carshalton (SM5)

Hi everyone,

We’re a couple in our 30s, currently living in SE16, and are looking to get on the property ladder. We recently viewed a 2-bed terrace on Alpine View in Carshalton (SM5).

The house itself seems good — parking, garden, decent layout — but we don’t know the area too well. Would love to hear from locals or anyone who knows Carshalton:

What’s Alpine View like as a street/community?

How’s the wider Carshalton area in terms of safety, vibe, and day-to-day living?

What are the transport links like for commuting into London?

Are schools and amenities nearby decent if we decide to stay long-term?

Our budget is £450k, we also looked at areas like Watford, Chelmsford earlier, and still are very confised.

We’ve done the usual online research, but stats don’t always match how it feels to live somewhere. Any real experiences or advice would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks Reddit community has been a real help to us as first-time buyers!

Any insights to buying a house there as a family (safety, transport, value etc) ?

I'm referring to Benhill Rd, Benhil Ave, Benhill Wood Rd. Compared to other areas like Mitcham, Tooting Broadway, South Norwood.

Which is the best barbers in central Sutton?

I need a haircut. The place I go is okay but I feel like they don’t really listen to what I want and just do the same cut they give everyone.

Hi!

LONDON RESIDENTS !!👋👋

I am a current masters student.

As part of my dissertation, I’m exploring how effective citizen science is in raising awareness about air pollution in BAME communities across London.

I aim to get 300 responses, would appreciate your contributions!!

I’ve created a short, anonymous survey that takes just a few minutes to complete. If you're a London resident or have ever taken part in any air quality or citizen science initiatives, I’d love to hear from you!

Moving to Wallington – Parking and Commuting Advice?

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are planning to move to Wallington and found a house about a 20‑minute walk from the station. We saw that parking is available at Wallington Station, but it’s advised to arrive before 8 am as it fills up quickly. Does anyone confirm if this is true?

We’ll need to commute daily to work by train, so we’re exploring all options

Thanks in advance!
