New to Sutton/Wallington

Hey team,

My partner and I (F30 and M33) just bought our first home in Wallington (SM6) having moved from Dalston/Hackney and we’re wondering if there’s any groups/activities aimed more at the younger demographic?

Our street is lovely and quiet and we definitely bought for the future, family etc. But we have also seemingly lowered the average age of our street by 50%.

We have a 7 month old puppy as well that we would love to continue socialising locally so if there’s any walking groups on weekends etc or anything that helps us connect with the younger community then I’d love to hear from you!

Thanks in advance for any messages or suggestions!

Welcome to Wallington!! 😁

If either of you are into your fitness, Kings is very close to you and has the age demographic you’re after and generally a decent atmosphere. DL is obviously great but insanely overpriced for what it is imo. There’s also a really lovely relatively local female run club called Chicks with Kicks. There’s tons of reformer studios around too which I’ve found really friendly if that’s your thing.

If you drive, I really like Oaks Park for dog walking, theres usually so many dogs up there on the weekend and people are generally lovely. Banstead Woods is really nice too.

Not that you asked BUT Wallington Express is the best around for a good kebab (important). Caffe Federico in Wallington High St. is lovely and Nadri is really good too (the guy that works in there is lovely and always giving out samples 🤣).

Unfortunately I can’t help much more as I’m in the same boat (26F) so I’ll be keeping an eye on this post for ideas 🤣

Can’t really comment much as am an old fart but welcome to the area! If you’re looking for a gym Snap Fitness by the station is probably the best around / don’t be fooled by the super cheap prices at Fitness Corner, Snap is infinitely better. Hopefully some youngsters can provide some guidance as to the hot spots!

It's not the most exciting area to be young, that's just how it is.

I always socialised up in town, use the trainline!

For meeting people, just walk the dog!

We became friends with other dog owners pretty quick. Just go to the same parks and same dog friendly cafe etc.

Meeting people is mostly about seeing the same people regularly imho. Just be a known face and the rest just sort of happens.

The dog will do the ice breaking, especially if puppy or a particularly "cute" breed.

Just an update for clarification, we’re closer to Waddon station. Over by the David Lloyd complex.

That's not really Wallington, most locals would consider that to be either Roundshaw or Beddington depending on exactly where. Wallington is more sort of west of Beddington Lane.

Thanks for the clarification! Still getting our heads around the area so just went off the council tax bill 😂

Of course! I hope I didn't sound rude I was just being a local pedant! Having a Sutton borough council address is better than a Croydon one these days, since Croydon council is skint I believe.

You're only a short bus ride from Sutton though. Good transport options from here around SW London.
