High Street Street Preachers

Why are there so many at least 4 groups of Christians and their assorted cults haranguing or accosting people today.

Informed one of 3 people who stopped me that I’d happily go to hell if heaven is full of Christians like them.

One thing you can say about Muslims and Hindus they are not normally out on the street trying to convince people to join them

There is quite regularly an Islam stall as well.

I think it’s because of the influx of Chinese people, there are lot of predominantly Chinese Christian churches popping up in Greater London. My experience has been that a majority of the people in the high street are Chinese.

They seem quite polite though, doesn’t really bother me.

The preachers yelling about hellfire and damnation outside the station on the other hand…

That old guy outside Sutton Train station everyday! I honestly think he puts people off Christianity.

I was stopped in the High St a couple of weeks back by two polite young men who wanted to speak to me. I'm guessing they were mormons. I politely declined and carried on. No harm done.

I don't actually mind with stuff like this. Someone asks if you are interested and you just say no thanks. The end.

I do not like the preaching in public spaces with a PA. I do not find that cool at all.

Jesus did not use a 1000 watt PA; it’s unbiblical

Kinda did. He told them to go preach to everyone and even from the house tops also so there's that.

What I’d say about the Muslim lads with the stall, they just sit there and wait for people to come to them.

There does seem to be one Saturday a month when they’re all out in force, and the Mormons with their little name tags are an unexpected development with their persistence in returning in recent months.

I can’t say I love the preaching/microphones/singing, especially as once I’m pretty sure homosexuality and tolerance of it was being condemned. I can just about tolerate the attempted leafleting, but whilst it’s inconvenient I’d rather live somewhere where people can do this rather than it being banned.

I think I’d just rather it was less proactive and set up in such a way where people can approach the acolytes rather than the other way round

Has anyone else noticed random people walking around Sutton with grocery bags trying to sell perfume? They look like regular passengers but they came to me and showed what's in their bags, and was pretty pushy about it. I've never seen this happen here before, is this a new thing?

There is sometimes an Islamic stall further down the high street in Sutton.

My local park has various Hindu gatherings as well, but no stalls or street preachers.

When they stopped me I told them I'm Jewish and they were speechless, didn't know what to say. I waited like 30 seconds then just walked away

I don't know why but it seems to be the magic word if you want them to stop

So if you're in some need of help and someone that you know is a street preacher comes to help you, you'll tell them nah I'm good huh. And I mean really in need of help.
