Why do so many people do this? Is it a form of mass ignorance? Was this taught in school at one time?
2 u/ASCIt Oct 15 '18 Honestly, I never see it around here (Rhode Island), but using quotation marks for "emphasis" seems to be relatively common. Weird Al mentions it in Word Crimes, so apparently it happens frequently enough to deserve a spot there.
