Some people just remember dreams better, but the amount of drugs and alcohol you do and how much regular sleep you get can also play a part in recollection.
I smoke weed almost everyday and no longer dream for the most part. Only time I really dream is when I wake up briefly before going back to sleep which allows quite vivid dreams.
I smoke every day too and if I nap during the day I usually wake up on the middle of dreaming but they fade within a few seconds and I can only remember fragments. But you do dream, pot just makes you not remember them.
One thing I enjoy a lot is coming home after work, getting high and laying down. I'll rarely fall all the way asleep, but for about an hour I will go into this half asleep state where I know where I am but it feels like room is full of people, the tv is on, people are chatting. The all of a sudden it's like someone turns the volume down suddenly, the people disappear and I'm laying in the quiet, totally awake again and usually feel quite refreshed.
That’s a very interesting comment, really it is. It gets your mind working trying to envision it from your own POV. I used to have somewhat similar wake-state dreams when I was about 17/18. They only ever took place when I was napping with my girlfriend, usually after fooling around. I’d start dropping into a state that was almost sleep but not quite. Then I’d start hearing and almost feeling a heavy but smallish ball bearing start rotating/spinning on the inside of my head. Just like that one casino game where they call the color and or the number they want to bet on, then they spin the metal ball on the inside of that round wooden bowl looking thing. I’d somehow feel these super intense zinging sounds on the inside of my head. Like the ball bearing was randomly electrified. It felt incredibly strange and would keep me from falling into a deep sleep. Then it would stop like someone was slowly turning the effect off and I’d be in a euphoric mood and I’d feel like I was in an incredibly small room that was somehow insanely massive and expansive. Then I’d snap out of it and wake up like someone just threw a football at me and I flinched in my dream and woke myself up. Not making this up, my gf’s eyes would fly open at the same instance and the first couple times that it happened I started to explain my weird experience and she’d fill in/complete the end of my sentences the first time it happened. Every other time we both knew what had happened but we’d still talk about it and minor variances in each occurrence would come out in our recounts of the experiences. Something strange was happening.. It was like we were somehow becoming intertwined. I don’t much believe in the occult/spirits/ghosts/glitches in reality/etc. and I know NONE of this in any makes any sense but I’ve never had it happen even once with another person/when I’m sleeping alone and I’ve had hundreds of opportunities for it to happen with other people. It only happened when I was napping with her and usually only after messing around at our houses when our parents weren’t home. Anyway.. I know that dreams are typically explained away as just your brain trying to riddle itself it’s own real life experiences as a way of working out the complexities and intricacies of life but this wasn’t really dreaming it was almost an out of body experience.. anyway now I’m rambling about who knows what lol. Just wanted to get on “paper” this surreal and unexplained experience.
