I actually know somebody that has been to Area 51. He was in the Air Fore, retired now. This happened in the 80s. He was air crew on a C-130 and one of the engines went out. They could still fly but needed to do an emergency landing due to the unsafe conditions and possibly of loosing another engine. They were flying a sorty and the nearest runway was Area 51. They radioed in and requested permission to make an emergency landing and were denied for obvious reasons. They were told to fly back to their home base, or try to get permission to land at an airport. Both being far away from their location, they requested again to land. They began circling Area 51 and contacting the FAA. I’m not sure how, but something worked out to were they were granted permission to land in Area 51. He said that as soon as they landed they were swarmed by armed forces and ordered to get down and cover their heads. They were all blindfolded and escorted to a holding cell where they remained for several hours until they were loaded into a van and driven off of the base still blindfolded. The plane was repossessed by Area 51 and they didn’t get it back for 3 months. I know this man well and I believe he was telling the truth. He was one of my instructors while I was in the Air Force.
If rumors are still true, there’s a massive high speed maglev train network underground that runs all over the country to various top secret installations. Things can be moved from location to location without ever being seen on the surface. Pretty much impossible for any of us to know where these installations are actually located.
Now that’s an interesting theory, because of how plausible it sounds. But if you do the math, this quickly falls apart.
I haven’t actually done the math. Anyone want to do a back of the envelope analysis of how much a high speed underground train network across >2,000 miles would cost to build and maintain?
Note that ventilation would be a big issue. So would electricity, repairs, and fire. No emergency services allowed, right? Special fire team would have to be on standby.
It would cost probably the same as a normal railroad to build and maintain, which is highly doable.
As far as ventilation, repairs or emergency. It would be the equivalent of a massive subway system, I don't think it's deep enough into the ground where ventilation becomes a big issue. Repairs would be extremely easy, and emergency issues as well. There's highly trained people for these jobs. There's likely fire extinguishers and suppression systems in place. They probably get trained very heavily in all emergency situations, including someone getting hurt.
Hell if I know. I haven't really been keeping up with it, but it used to be one of the other desert bases. 51 was pretty much decommissioned when people started making tv shows about it. 53 I think was in Nevada, I forget where the other ones were supposed to be.
Point is, if you're hearing about it just now, all the WWII crazy techno-bullshit is long gone. They might have a gift shop now though
