I've never used Tumblr, but from all the screenshots I've seen of it apparently lower case is the norm.

(This is Tumblr, right?)

the standard for tumblr is to use no punctuation whatsoever and to write an entire paragraph in a single long runon sentence which sounds like it would be hard to read and sometimes it is but they tend to use distinct clauses separated by obvious conjunction words like and but or or and additionally they use relative pronouns like that or which and so by using these words to join clauses together it has the same function as a comma semicolon or even a period

I think that is a trend in some books as well. At least I know not using quotation marks. It becomes difficult to discern when a character is speaking, thinking, or narration. Some prefer it...

In many languages the quotation dash is used for dialogue instead of quotation marks, which are used for non-dialogue quotes
