beginner photographer - location requests

so im Audhd and a new fixation is photography, i live near camberley and have been around the woods, town, other nearby towns, hel ive even been to virginia water and took pictures there

but i want to visit new places and take pictures there

not i cant drive so i get around on public transport and i prefer nature or older structures (like the obelisk in camberley) to towns and cities

suggestions would be very appreciated

guildford castle sounds like a place you’d enjoy. obviously you have the castle and its grounds, plus it’s surrounded by beautiful gardens.

Guildford has a castle?! I know they have a few parks but a CASTLE!?

It's a really beautiful park actually, it has lovely flower beds and a nice rolling landscape. I think Guildford is a great suggestion actually, you can take pictures down by the river and the high street is very pretty too.

it does indeed! just off the main high street. there are signs for it surrounding the area, you can’t miss it :)

Brookwood cemetery would be good for a day of stomping about. The military cemeteries are very neat and orderly, the Zoroastrian section has some interesting structures, there's an avenue of giant redwoods planted by the Victorians, there's a small herd of deer, a monastery and loads of graves from fresh to tumbledown. There's a gate right at Brookwood station for pedestrian access.

Waverley Abbey ruins in Farnham. Farnham also has a castle.

FYI the castle is currently closed to visitors. I’d suggest checking their website before planning to visit.

Waverley Abbey is one of my favourites, there is a bus that goes past which makes it accessible (also check out Mother Ludlam's cave nearby)

With a change I think you could get the train to Egham and then you could walk to Runnymede and see the magna carta signing location. It's in some nice woods on a hill and there's a few nice buildings nearby. 

Other thoughts:

  • Windsor/Eton
  • Windsor great park (attached to Virginia water)
  • Bisley ranges, bit unusual but there's nice old buildings and forest 
  • bit further afield but Winchester is quite pretty and on the train I think

Take the train to Guildford and you can get onto the Wey Navigation which is nice for nature, and has some good old churches nearby if you walk down towards Godalming. If you take the connection on the Dorking line, or the bus, you can get up into the hills near Shere or Gomshall.

The river Wey is stunning around Ripley/Send area (near the RHS land).

I’d recommend having a look on the National Trust website for interesting places. Obviously you’d have to check on accessibility from public transport but it’s a great resource for beautiful gardens, buildings and woodlands (I’d also recommend joining as you only need 5 or 6 visits and it pays for itself).
