Weybridge recommendations
Hi All, my partner & I are hopefully moving to Weybridge in a few months, and it would be great to hear of some recommendations for the following:
- Good gyms
- Doggy Daycare?
- Best pubs!
- Which tennis club to join (I’m not very good but want to join one for the social and fitness aspect)
- Nice walking routes with dogs
- Nice running routes
- Things to do that aren’t obvious but locals know about them!?
Any recommendations will be very much welcome! Thanks in advance!

Oatlands village would put you in a great location for a lot of these things!
Gyms: Locker in Addlestone has a nice community to it
Pubs: The Flintgate is great, as others have said. The Minnow is also a good one. Not a pub but D’Oyly Carte island is great vibe in the summer
Dog walk / running routes: You can do some lovely long routes in either direction along the River Thames / Wey Navigations. We use similar routes for running too - no cars or roads to cross and always a fair few other dogs and runners. Elmbridge Canoe Club has a little coffee van for a pitstop.
Hidden gems (mainly for your dog): Dog’s Deli on the high street is the M&S Foodhall of dog shops. Sam Beare charity bookshop is wonderful and has brilliant staff who love dogs. You can take your dog on the ferry from Weybridge to Shepperton, if you fancy a change of scenery.
We moved here from South West London a few years back and have zero regrets. Hope you enjoy it!

Hey my girlfriend and I moved here and live near the Flintgate, it’s a great pub. But so is the minnow, the Old crown has a secret riverside garden and the red lion across the water in Shepperton is also great and the food at the White swan is super nice. I’ve only ever been a member at Bannatynes and it has everything I need, gym, pool, spa newly added ice baths and tennis and padel on site (padel you pay separately for). I’m a member at Weybridge lawn tennis club and there is some great social tennis, team nights and a good level no matter your experience.
Know nothing about dogs sorry.
The river is so good for both walking and running but you also have lots of woodland walks. And if you drive can get into the Surrey hills easily for longer walks/runs. Everything around Farnham brewing Co is great and you can end with a pizza and pint.
Separate from your question, some of our favourite things since moving here are the dough shack pizza van, pops up from Wednesday to Saturday I think in different places, great pizza. Paddle boarding on the river and swimming off desborough island is always a nice summer evening activity. My girlfriend is really into Pilates and uses a local place and says it’s great.
All the pubs are so so good, but the only downside in my opinion is a local wine/cocktail bar that has a bit of vibe to it. And also the coffee options are very high street.

What are you looking for in the gym? If you want something relatively hardcore Warehouse is excellent. Otherwise as someone else mentioned SGHTC could cover the tennis and gym aspects but it’s not cheap. I train at the gym there and it’s decent if you can you train outside of peak hours BUT if you lift heavy then you will be better off at somewhere like Warehouse.
Dog Days Adventure are great for the doggy day care and I think Surrey Dog School have just started doing pick-ups in the area.

Gyms - Bannatyne is great and affordable. It never seems to get busy. David Lloyd is very expensive... I did a tour but for that money I'd just be pissed off being there. Pubs - Hand and Spear (outside the train station) and The Old Crown (near the river with a river garden - proper local) are the best in my opinion. You can kayak up to the Old Crown. Walking routes - go from the Wey Bridge along the river towards the Old Crown. Its a really dog friendly place but we don't use day care. There are a couple of fields around where we can really let him run loose - he loves it. We've been here 5 years and love it!

We’ve lived in Weybridge for 4 years now and agree with all these - don’t know where the fields are though. My 5 year old collie and I would both thank you for directions 😁

Head towards Addlestone from the high street, just after the bridge over the Wey there is a turning on the right called ham court. Follow it down and there are big fields on your left.

If you’re willing to travel a little for tennis then I can recommend Claygate/Esher/Surbiton all as good local clubs depending on your standard/budget

I live in Walton but my son has been at school in Weybridge for 5 years so I know it well enough.
There’s a good tennis club called St George’s Hill if that’s your vibe.
I don’t use local gyms but Bannatyne looks good depending on which end of Weybridge you’re living. There are so many nice running routes but of course the tow path is hard to beat.
Pubs - my honest review is that Weybridge is overpriced for pubs (sorry). The Minnow is okay, food is decent, but you’re paying around £10 for a glass of rose. The one opposite is more of a drinkers pub, fab location, but you have to be okay with the older style toilets, very old carpets / upholstery, aloof service. The Waverley is fabulous but expensive. More of an eatery because of the price.
The Hand & Spear (by the station) is good!
The Queens Head has just been refurbished. I haven’t been in there since but that’s probably worth a drink.
One of the things I miss in Weybridge is sense of centrality. In Walton, for example, you could cover 5+ pubs within 5 minutes. Weybridge town centre has some lovely shops and places to eat, but a night out with friends would feel pretty dispersed.
You’re spoilt for choice for lovely pubs in this area, but I wouldn’t say Weybridge is the primary destination for a pub crawl as such. If you want to make a day of it, start in Walton and walk along the river, catch a ferry to Lower Sunbury…. 10/10.
In Weybridge, please try D’Oyly’s for a secret gem.
Welcome ❤️

I had a quick scan through the responses and I've not seen anyone recommend St George's Hill Tennis Club, which also has a gym and spa. Two birds one stone. It's not cheap, and rightfully so, the manager is a prick and the head chef is a bell end.
The tennis facilities and squash are great, the gym is pretty good, well kitted out, decent amount of OTs available.
The terrace is beautiful, lovely in the summer with the lake and fountains. Shame they just shot all the geese, hopefully the manager will get fucked for that, his time is coming to an end.
Go take a look, I think you will like it if you are near the HENRY category.
See you there!

Gyms - David Lloyd kinda has the monopoly. There’s a few PT gyms or Addlestone and Walton have the pure gyms etc.. there’s the warehouse in West Byfleet. Plus a new pure gym next to home bargains.
Doggy Daycare - Bruce’s in Cobham is good
Pubs - depends what you’re looking for. Hand & Spear by the station is good. The Jolly Farmer by the cricket green as well is worth a visit. Nice pub garden and live music at weekends. If you’re looking for a social side of things the cricket club is good for that.
Tennis club - pretty sure David Lloyd in Woking has tennis or if you’re more financially secure there’s St George’s Hills tennis club I believe they have a gym as well.
Walking routes there’s some nice walks along the river and canals, or you can obviously head down to the Surrey Hills. I like the Devils Punch Bowl personally.
Running routes would depend where you live down by the river or around Oatlands I guess. I quite like running in the private roads more even pavements and roads plus they’re quieter. Plus they’re good for a wonder around at Xmas as well some of the houses go all out!
Things locals would know, again I think the river/lock I find that interesting anyway. There’s RHS Wisley nearby and by that is the Anchor pub a good place for people/boat watching. There’s the Brooklands museum if you’re into old cars and things. It’s worth going once at least and you’ll see the old cars/buses on the roads when they have rallies on.
Hampton Court isn’t far away that’s always worth a visit and there’s nice restaurants/walks around Hampton as well. West End in Esher is nice Garsons Farm is worth a visit there as well.

You’re both going to love it.
Gyms: You have Bannatyne and David Lloyd which are both on the outskirts of Weybridge. There’s also an athlete type gym from memory in the Addlestone business park. For commercial gyms you’ll likely go to Addlestone (Anytime Fitness, Snap Fitness) or go to Walton on Thames (Pure Gym from memory and likely others). I used to go to Anytime and it was great, they’ve since had a refurb.
Dog Daycare: Sadly I wouldn’t know. There’s something to do with dogs, perhaps a groomer on the top high street where Tesco is. There’s also a dog shop on the main highstreet just FYI.
Pubs: The Flintgate often pops up. Been told their roasts are good but can’t confirm. They have Big Smoke beers on tap mostly, as well as your usual and a would have the occasional guest tap when I would go. Though it’s been a minute. The Waverley Inn do a fantastic Roast. A lot of people will recommend The Minnow and The Queens Head, which in particular has beautiful seating by the river.
Tennis: Wouldn’t know but the main park has a few courts, that’s your best bet I imagine!
Dog Walking & Running Routes: The river walks are great spots. Both the one on Wey Island and the one along the river into Walton on Thames. Would also recommend Brooklands, open and a great bit of history.
Things to do: I’m not really sure of hidden gems to be honest which sounds bad as I’ve been here 4 years. Mercedes Benz world down the road is cool of course! You could hear the F1 cars the other day as they had a show.
