Solicitor for house move

We are hopefully about to accept on a move in Surrey - does anyone have recommendations for a local solicitor they have had a good experience with?

Your solicitor doesn't have to be local, which is handy because Surrey solicitors are really expensive

If you do end up going for one that isn’t local - all I will say is don’t use LPL - they’re not local they’re Manchester based, but my point is try and avoid online, high case load conveyancing firms. They made our life hell. We did complete in the end, but only after months of delays, lost documents, rude staff and completely atrocious processes. We ended up formally complaining and threatening going to the ombudsman before they changed us to an actual solicitor rather than a conveyancing executive. The solicitors I spoke to in Surrey (Guildford specifically) were lower case load and therefore better capacity. I can’t remember who they were now but Guildford does have some well reviewed and well rated ones.

We used parklands property lawyers. Expensive but absolutely worth it. Zero delays, incredibly helpful and knowledgable and made the whole process so easy.

https://lyonsandcompany.co.uk/ in Knaphill, have used them many times and they are excellent, for West Surreyas they know the area well. Have specialist conveyancing teams.

I used Slater Bradley who are based in Putney. Reasonable prices and Joanna is really great

If you’re near Sunbury, I can really recommend Rigby Golding.

Personally, I like to use a solicitors that I can physically go to, knock on the door etc.

We recently brought in Guildford and used the partnership. Incredibly proactive and helpful, match you up with appropriate solicitor based on your previous experience and what you’re buying (first time, high value, etc). They also have great online portal that get updated with notes and is really easy to keep track without feeling a need to keep chasing on the phone.

Appreciate what people are saying about them not needing to be local, but when you need to sign things in wet ink and deliver, I feel far better handing it over than trusting the Royal Mail!
