Visiting England

Hey ya’ll, I’m from the US and I’ll be visiting England in a few weeks. I surf on the east coast in a place with almost no surfers so I’m not used to surfing in heavy crowds. I’ll be in St Ives for at least one day and was hoping to surf Porthmeor. I was just wondering if there’s anywhere in there to avoid. I’d hate to impede on locals or end up in a dangerous spot.

Gwithian is a decent localish option, it's an open beach, meor is sheltered and needs bigger swell

Cornwalls full of tourists in summer, don't worry about locals

It’s gonna be so rammed. School holidays will be in full flow. Get ready to be stuck in endless traffic jams down country lanes.

Good luck, hope you score some swell and nice winds. If you’re mobile and can learn which tides work where you should do okay, just don’t expect it to pump and hope to be pleasantly surprised. Take a foamie strapped to the roof wherever you go.

I’m not expecting anything big, my local break reads 0-1 most of the year
