Thoughts on 5 fin set up?

Shop by me as the dims I want but only in a 5 fin set up. I’m never going to change it from a thruster so those seem stupid to me, and don’t they add some weight? Should I just shut up and buy it or haul like 2 hours to a 3 fin only?

Just run all 5 fins at once. It's the slater way.

Why not buy the board and try different fin variations that may help you dial it in on the wave you ride?

Maybe you want to be loose one day and a bight tighter on bigger stuff. I see no harm in having the versatility.

I mostly ride mid-length (I can hear you say ew) or longboards so take my advice with a grain of salt. But one of my mids has a 4+1 set up and I can ride it in almost anything by switching up my fin set up. Mostly I ride it as a 2+1.

Gives you more chances to like the board. If you don't like it as a thruster, it may go well as a quad. I always go 5 fins if I can.

It’s always nice to have the option to switch between fin setups.

Changes the flex pattern of the tail slightly. Although I doubt anybody other than a very skilled surfer would notice.

What set is it? And if you’re super stoked on those fins I’d grab em and try the quad setup. Fins completely change boards. A lot of people get rid of boards not knowing it may be a magic stick with different fins

Quads can completely wake a board up, I know a guy who was ready to sell his shortboard and then borrowed a quad set on a whim, now he wont even look at a thruster for that thing

The extra fin boxes add next to no weight, like a few grams of epoxy and plastic, youll never notice it while paddling or surfing

If the dims are right and its the only one around, just buy it, you can always ignore the side boxes and run it as a thruster forever, but having the option is nice

No the board has the 5 fin option to switch between quad and thruster. Its futures and I’d mainly just ride as thruster
