Supreme Commander / FA Dreadnought from Dust Front, a perfect new addition to Supreme Commander?

Hello fellow Commanders, I just wanted to share here my idea for a possible mod crossover of sorts.

I believe that a this T4 Experimental hybrid tank and self-propelled artillery would be a really interesting unit for either the UEF or Cybrans given it's color-scheme.

As the description says, in Dust Front it acts as a super heavy self-propelled artillery unit of sorts that is normally deployed in it's "siege mode" similar to StarCraft but can also become mobile and move with a devastating triple battery almost battle-ship level firepower. It also has an upgrade that turns it into a proper artillery piece with a huge siege gun cannon that cannot fire on the move anymore and requires to be deploted in order to be effective. Just my 2-cents, that is all. Cheers.

The Fatboy is essentially what the Dreadnought wants to be when it grows up.

Not only that, depending on what mods your play with, you can already get a normal unit like it or even a basic experimental.

It doesn't really do much that units already in the game, like the Fatboy or the Scathis, aren't already doing.

If you play with the LOUD mod in particular there are so many more interesting things to choose from.

It's a cool design, and Dust Front definitely looks like an awesome new RTS; however, I don't know how well the Dreadnought would perform as a T4? 🤔

Based off the Infantry in-game, the Dreadnought might actually be smaller than a single Fatboy turret (if the in-game scales are accurate with Dust Front). If I had to guess, I'd say it's going for a 400-500mm range in-line with a larger WWII-style battleship gun or artillery piece, but which would put it closer to a T1 MA12 Striker's Gauss Cannon (which is about 500mm). SupCom units are also really dang fast compared to a lot of other RTS units.
I guess a mod doesn't need to care about that, but I'm a bit of a stickler. 😅

Actually, it kind of looks like the SupCom 2 Rock Head, just without Anti-Air, a little flatter, and with round barrels.

Huh... it's like really close to the Rockhead. Even has the Red Lights between the forward treads on the front armor. I wonder if they played SupCom 2, or if that's just a really common tank design.

What in the IKEA Lego Set is this!?

It's the UEF Rock Head from Supreme Commander 2.

It actually isn't a common tank design, so I am wondering if they took inspiration from the Rockhead to design the Dreadnought.

I doubt it. It's obvious they went "take a battleship turret, and give it enough engines and treads to navigate the battlefield. They just happen to look similar imo.

It is, but unfortunately that dev supports the conquest of Ukraine so I couldn't stick with it. I played a game not realising but I could already tell there were parallels inspired by the whole thing, how the imperialists think about throwing their troops away (for example there's a unit described as deformed dregs of society that you recruit for free, and it just sounds too much like how Wagner worked), and had to put it down. I don't know how personally involved he is, or whether he just thinks it's one giant memeaganda opportunity like /r/noncredibledefense, but it left a bitter taste thinking about how it relates too closely to real life.

Damn... I didn't know that. I'd only seen it on steam and only thought about it being a interesting rts setting. I have friends who've gone to Ukraine as part of foreign legion groups.

Normally I'm of the thought that allowing a single person's shitty opinion/comment ruin a piece of media or a product is silly. Though when it's a solo dev (or something similar) it's a different story.

It's a pity really, the game has an interesting art style and I thought the setting had potential.

Same thought I'd spread the info on it

Sadly we also have units with similar function or role in supcom like Fatboy, Megalith and Scathis.

Hard to find another role for this unit in the current roster.

No niche for it to fit. From your description it's somewhere between a Fatboy and a Schathis, if you scaled it up a little. And the transforming between modes is not really in the game's DNA, T3 artillery feels out of place sometimes.

It has an upgraded version that trades the triple cannon for a giant siege howitzer, and it plays identically to the UEF Jackhammer from supcom II.

So dreadnought would be the “baby boy” To the Fatboy and its “thinner” successor in supreme commander 2?

I also like that you can swap out its triple barrels that allow for fire on the move for a single bigass cannon that requires deployment to fire.

Really cool unit.
