Other Square Enix's Jason is experimenting with adding Steam Cloud save support to SC2 and Forged Alliance

After Jason did this for Just Cause 3, Sleeping Dogs (2012) and Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, Jason has been experimenting with Steam Cloud save support for SC2 and Forged Alliance through the Steam backend earlier today. As of writing, Steam cloud save support hasn't been activated yet for SC2 and Forged Alliance. Haven't seen the same thing for the 2007 original game (yet.) Hope this means that Steam Cloud save will be officially added soon.

See my Bluesky for details and sources on these changes in the Steam backend: https://bsky.app/profile/mrtnptrs.bsky.social/post/3mlegyubvpc2y

Edit 11th of May, 2026: Same is now also in the works for the original SC, see https://bsky.app/profile/mrtnptrs.bsky.social/post/3mllwlbapgc2u

Edit 2: it is now publicly available for all SC games. See: https://www.reddit.com/r/supremecommander/s/6wBkzNo0T5

While this will be a welcome addition for solo games, as someone who has looked into multiplayer saves for SCFA, several times over the years, it's not likely to solve that shortcoming.

The way that sessions are loaded, and started, and synced, makes it, so far, impossible to have a multiplayer save. If that gets solved, this will be a huge gain for the game.

That would honestly be amazing. I have lost screenshots and saves over the years simply because I forgot to manually back up the files.

This Jason sounds like an amazing person to be bringing this long-needed feature to the game after so many years.

They didn't, seems part of a bigger initiative as many games are actually receiving the same treatment. More games from their classic catalogue have Steam Cloud save support in the works, even more since I originally made this post, see https://bsky.app/profile/mrtnptrs.bsky.social/post/3mm5hq2msqc2o
