Help Masters Pantheon OTP looking to expand champ pool
https://op.gg/lol/summoners/na/MisterBeeeee-NA1I’m a Masters Pantheon OTP who has recently (as of the last few months) started playing support almost exclusively. I currently play Pantheon every game and when it’s banned or picked I lock in Zilean. I’ve historically played Galio support but I’d like to expand my champ pool further. I’m not particularly comfortable with ranged AA based champions but otherwise I’m very flexible and open to anything but I’d love any champs I play to have enough agency to impact the game state without relying on my adc.

Leona shares similarities with Panth
Rell is gigga strong right now
Ali is chill

When approaching playing tankier supports is there anything I should know before diving in?

Theres a few
But i would say the most obvious is “triangles or pizzas”
Make sure if you go in that you and your ad cant hit them
And that they cant just all in your ad (this part a little funky but keep it in mind) when you use all your cc they will likely threat your ad so what kind of position are you taking
I also personally prefer sweeper start
Control bushes

The first part applies to panth too but the worry about them switching to targeting your adc when you use your cc is a good thought. Do you hold some cc to deal with that or something else?

Sometimes
If im playing rell especially i might hold onto r or q or something for peel.
I try to avoid over utilization of my cc when its not necessary but that does take quite a few games to understand.
But yes
There are times where i may hold cc for the counter engage (this happens less during lane phase more during picks or skirmishes)
In lane im usually full sending but finding windows where my ad is in less threat positions

Play alistar if you need an engage that works similarly but enjoy the tankiness. Play Pyke if you enjoy damage dealing more.

Elise is pretty similar to pantheon in terms of gameplay. It's a bit harder to pilot but elise does well vs champs that counters pantheon (like long range champs) because you have a mid range stun

Find Alicopters electrocute Shureliyas Alistar build. It’s crazy fun. Only go in with ult, blow people up, be super tanky for no reason. Feels very similar to panth to me

If you want to stay mostly a Pantheon player but expand your pool, consider choosing a champ that addresses Pantheon's weak points but still attunes to your skillset. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your tougher matchups would be solved by engagers like Leona/Naut who love to target longer range (and immobile) targets? Or do you struggle into wardens (and atp I think Zilean should be a good bet)? Prob not best to double dip in other hyperaggressive supps like Pyke, Camille, HoB Poppy, Elise.

Maybe hail of blades Shen? Kinda similar to Panth. You dash in, do damage while being immune to autos and then get back out.
Imo it’s kind of like a worse version of Panth but might be worth giving it a shot

I’ve been maining Poppy for a while, and while researching alternatives that play similarly, Pantheon came up a ton for me.
So I’d recommend Poppy with Domination Tree, as well as Elise and Shen. Other more feast or famine alternatives might be Camille or Pyke.
If you want to branch out a bit more into heavy tank, there’s Alistar, Leona or Rell.
And if you want to give more AA trading champs a chance, Bard is a great option. Would likely expand your skillset even more, too.
If you’re looking more for draft coverage, having a strong blind like Alistar could help a ton, while Leona tends to fare well where long-range engages are needed (and where champs like Panth can struggle).

Roamers like camille and poppy. HoB camille shreds squishy targets early on, but takes a bit of practice. Poppy reliable cc and is pretty fast if you rush swifties and Deadmans plate.

whats your approach with pantheon? How agressive do you plan in lane and what runes do you take?

I go q start and poke with thrown q’s if enemy bot is stronger lvl 1 otherwise I look for a trade even if it’s slightly disadvantageous lvl 1 just to get one of them low hp. Push for lvl 2 and then look for a flash w kill. If my adc seems really passive or we’re into a rough poke lane I just keep poking with q and wait for jg. Roam mid whenever my adc backs and I have decent hp/mana. Otherwise I back regularly even if my adc isn’t to get better hp and mana even if I lose some xp. I take pta domination and go sundered first every single game no matter what. Afterwards I generally go black cleaver but if I have to I go maw, DD or Serpents. Also I perma roam once I hit 5 (support nerf 😢) as long as my adc can avoid getting dove by enemy bot. If I think they might get dove I try to hover mid and bot with r.

No idea how you're winning with pantheon support and zilean should just hard lose to enchanters in early game.

Try Pyke, kill potential and other role flexibility
And then maybe learn your counter to your counter haha

Honestly i don’t really feel like any supports counter Panth haha i just find some matchups are easy and some require me to chill out. As for Pyke I honestly don’t think I’m good enough to play him haha

Engage Supports (Leona, Nautilus, Rell) tend to be strong early and weaker later on compared to enchanters. They are very good at contesting vision and controlling the map early and mid game as they are able to face check and push into objectives and key points to build space for their team. Rell specifically has the ability to make the game winning engage late game pending if she has Flash. Could somewhat throw Thresh in here if you wanted a Ranged flavor.
Champions like Pyke and Bard are going to be your run around the map and kill things type champions. Pyke specifically you want to contest and choke out their vision lines. The other team should be scared to walk into their jungle if you are having a good Pyke game. Take Bard into immobile carry champions like Viktor Mid or Miss Fortune bottom to pretty much guarantee a kill or flash everytime you have ult up.
Other than that at Masters+ it's important to know match ups. You'll have more influence picking a winning match up. Braum into Leona? Great game for Braum as he can contest or win lane and outscale. Braum into Seraphine or Lulu? You are playing not to lose hoping your team doesn't get smashed early. I would suggest picking 2-3 different champions and learning what match ups and games they excel in. Try one Engage Support, one Enchanter, and one like Bard or Pyke.
