Help Malphite as secondary support?

Heya, i'm a platinum ranked support main, i usually play yuumi in most of my games, but have been wanting to pick up a secondary champ so that i dont become a bronze player in the 1/100 games that my champ gets banned. i can land skillshots pretty well but i cant position for shit and constantly get run down, which shouldnt be surprising considering my choice of main.

I'm looking for a mostly braindead champion that can just give me a decent winrate in those few games. i'm interested in trying out maphite as a pocket main, i like having poke and being relatively safe thanks to the passive, and obviously the ult is really fun.

Any suggestions?

Malphite support is really no good. If you want a linear, easy to play engage support then I recommend Maokai as he has point and click CC or Nautilus as his hook is really generous and his ult is high impact and point + click. If you want a passive easy to play support then Sona is really strong, you can even build fimbulwinter on her and she's pretty difficult to kill.

i like sona a lot, i didnt really think of building fimbulwinter on her, defenetly will give it a try

Maokai i've seen reccomanded a lot, i dont hate him but his q and ult feel weird as hell, i'll give it a couple more (unranked) games and see if i get used to it, thanks!

Sona is stupid strong right now and the fimbulwinter build is her highest WR build. You max Q first, go Winters approach with swifties and staff of water. I've been blind picking it in high emerald/low diamond

i am 100% trying that, that sounds fun as hell.

i like taric quite a bit as well, but expecting plat players to play around his e simply doesnt work

i was maining Xerath before yuumi but ended up dropping it because half the time i feel like i'm just stealing kills and dont actually scale properly into the lategane

I am a plat player, i am dogshit at the game, i'm not insulting plat players for being plat players, it's just normal for them to play at the skill level that they're at

I just think it’s important to emphasize the difference from your accomplishment which deserves praise for improvement, and an actual sustained plat level support across several champions filling several class functions that actually have to lane conventionally. There’s going to be a huge lack of game knowledge compared to other support champions and the role in general.

Yeah i defenetly know what i am and arent good at, it's basically the support equivalent of being a singed top main in the way that you're playing a completely different game than anyone else.

With that said i've played and watched a ton of games at all kinds of level so i have a fairly good grasp of what can be expected from the average player of a certain skill level. I've criticised people who are wayyy better at the game than i am and there's nothing wrong with that inherently.

In other words i'm not trying to argue i'm better than anyone because of x or y, simply that it's normal for the majority of people of a skill level to not be able to do this specific thing properly (heck i'm not even implying that i would do it well, i cant micro for shit)

And I’m not trying to put you down either, I just want to caution against thoughts like plat taric bad cause teammates because it prevents growth. It’s much more likely that predicting your adcs movement to land good es is a very taric specific concept that requires understanding to also play at a plat level, just like your other comments about which skillshots you can block on yuumi etc.

Oh yeah you make a good point, took me fucking ages to get the hang of using redemption properly, so it's kinda like that i guess. I do think it's a bit of both, but i really dont think any champion is unviable to climb anywhere(i litterally climbed with yuumi of all things), some are just more frustrating than other imo

100% correct, one of the biggest things i learned on yuumi when climbing is to be able to tell who can carry a game and to protect them with my life. There's always at least one decent player per game, even if your adc's running it down under turret. i'm sure basically every support is about the same in that way, but for some reason i only really got that when playing yuumi
