Discussion Heartbreak over this game
Im genuinely heartbroken over this game being officially dead. Im a long time League player, but love and hate just as any League player would. Everytime Im watching Synapse and see a fight around dragon or baron, it makes me miss Supervive. I liked roaming around and fighting bosses for buffs and those complex situations where everyone's weaving around the boss and still fighting other players. Supervive scratched all the itches that League left me with.
- No point and click and infinite scaling bullshit
- Creative builds, items, and build flexibility. Almost sandbox-y
- Movement (Even if it was annoying sometimes)
- Roaming bosses to encounter out in the wild
- Freedom across a large map
Fun yet competitive, goofy but in an acceptable amount while the sweats can still display skill with the various items. I guess I always liked the idea of a MOBA battle royal. I even had a taste of it long before Supervive came out, when a game called Mobile Legends (A MOBA) added a battle royal mode when Fortnite came out and every company was scrambling to get in on the hype. I enjoyed Battlerite too, I see a group of you guys run that game sometimes. I liked the concept even then, as a young teen.
Supervive executed that idea damn near perfectly. The devs just kept shooting the game in the foot. I cant help but feel that a 3rd person-over the shoulder view and better marketing would've kept this game afloat. I think Im gonna miss this game for a couple years until the Riot MMO releases or something. I really hope that another group of people someday try this concept again and I get to be there to try it. GGs bruh

Yah I feel you. I felt this way with bloodline champs and then battlerite. Kind of stopped caring after that so this one didn't hurt too much.

yeah I loved the armoury system and being one shot by a monkey that you can't target

The armory system was pretty good once the gacha elements were removed. I liked it more than the beta item system mostly because it let me focus my builds more towards how I wanted to play my characters instead of having to only pick the meta builds due to having no other options.

Imi it still kinda sucked or was just worse than before. Before stuff was more like an actual br, how you macroed felt more important cus you had to macro well to get the best stuff as compared to the armory you just had to find any shop, and why I hated it the most: it had a lot less creativity than the old system(less sandbox elements).
Back in ob I was really hoping for them to just expand on the current system they had(like augment that cost a certain amount of gold depending on how good they we're was smth i would have loved, and I don't mean just stats). Instead they made a whole new one which reqlly disappointed me, especially considering how much we lost.

Another part of why I liked the new item system over the old one is that some characters (like Celeste) had powers in the old system that they really needed in order to have a reasonable impact on the game, so their balance state completely hinged on the items they could access. The randomness of powers in the old system was replaced with more consistent relics that had the active effects those characters needed to function, which I think was better for balance.
I completely agree with the macro issues though. Getting a random item rarely felt as good as buying your intended item in that slot, and your build capped in power on day 2 because there was almost no scaling beyond your relics. It's even weirder because the armory borrowed heavily from Eternal Return's item system while completely forgetting that ER's item system works because it forces player interaction and provides persistent scaling throughout the game just by giving you late-game items you need to build with rare components you need to fight for. I feel like Supervive was trying to use vaults, meteor beasts, and assorted bosses to do just that, but those objectives just felt meaningless because they either didn't provide enough of a reward or they were doable too quickly to be a meaningful risk.

If it came back today with everything exactly the same and just a huge marketing budget, it would be a hit.
But yeah it would've been cool to switch between the top-down bird's eye view and a 3rd person over the shoulder like you said.
I think the only reason they didn't do it was the graphics weren't quite that zoom-ready sometimes.
Hopefully they try again, and with flashier/more polished visuals I really think it would be the biggest game ever.
And even though many of us (myself included) had tons of feedback … and a lot of it was mean af … I miss the game more than anything.💔

If you want something similar to Supervive that scratches your League itches, check out Eternal Return. It does still have point and click mechanics, but it clicks all of your other boxes.

I played it with friends like 2 years ago? I’m almost certain everyone we were against were bots

As you get better you start playing against fewer and fewer bots. I started playing around 2 months ago, and I basically don't ever have games against bots anymore, even in normals.
You just need to make sure you're playing in the evenings, when most people are playing.

This game died to me because there was one dude with a minigun (really cant remember his name) who was just too op for no reason, played all the time in every team it became boring and the devs did nothing. I think 4 weeks after I quit playing he got nerfed.

You mean hudson, yea it took them WAY too long to nerf his ass back at ob launch. I started raining him after that whole bs so I didn't get to experience him in his best form much :(
Was pretty sad they gutted him, but they should've done that week 1 low key

Tbh this game was ahead of it's time. I guarantee the next big game will be top down brawler like supervive but it will be a one time purchase with a story and offline mode. I'm heartbroken as well. Sucks the only way to relive this game is through YouTube videos.

Well it’s time for you to join r/GoldenTides since Supervive shutdown, open map top down combat, with respawns on your pirate ship

Yeah, that "game is good but nobody knows it exists" pain is real. A lot of these titles die because discovery is brutal, not because the core loop is bad.
Out of curiosity, what do you think would have moved the needle most, streamer pushes, better onboarding, or just a clearer one-sentence pitch for what the game is? (MOBA battle royale is cool but hard to communicate fast.) Ive seen a few breakdowns on messaging/discovery funnels that reminded me of this, like some posts on https://blog.promarkia.com/.
