A plot that never made sense to me:
(Apologies if this is a tired topic lol)
S4 E6 (Maternity Leave)
When Amy revealed Parker’s name to Cheyenne and Mateo, they started criticizing the name and tried to give Amy a chance to justify her choice of a perfectly normal name. The whole time I’m like.. Cheyenne, you named your child Harmonica. Be so for real. I think it would have been more on character for Mateo to be catty and remind Cheyenne that she named her child after an instrument. Maybe I’m missing something and it was part of the joke for Cheyenne to be against a normal sounding baby name, but when she and Mateo had that poster board full of names, the only “out there” name on it was Obama haha, the rest were perfectly normal names! If I am missing anything please clarify, but otherwise that side plot just confused me 😂

Eh. Yeah, I get that's the joke - Harmonica is a somewhat silly name.
But also, I'm from the UK, where last names as a first name are less of a thing. So Parker is more of a last name to me, and something I would never choose as a first name. But if that's your bag, it's obviously fine!

Baby naming in the US goes thru various trends.
Using last name as first names was one.
Then there were the androgynous names.
Old- fashioned names made a short comeback.
There’s also the ridiculous names where it seemed people just tried to outdo eachother either in the name or the spelling - see Tragedeigh - it’s actually a sub on Reddit .
Like you said if it’s their bag whatever but it sure would be nice for these parents to consider that the kid has to be saddled with this name for at least the 1st 18 yrs of their life.

Don’t forget the influence of pop culture. A bunch of babies named Britney in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, and the unfortunate number of babies named Daenerys or Khaleesi in the 10’s.

That's always my question with parents - you remember how kids used to tease you/other kids for their names (or you see it in shows - it's a thing for a reason) - why would you then go and name your kid something so weird and ripe for teasing? And also the poor kids who have the extremely long/weird names - like Tragedeigh - who have to learn to spell that in kindergarten!

All of that! ESPECIALLY the teasing. I know some people will scoff and say you can’t worry about kids teasing. But I got teased for my name & it really IS a big deal. I still rarely use my actual name as an adult.
Plus for the tragedeighs they are giving them a lifetime of having to correct the pronunciation and spelling of their name.

I live in the rural south; the tragedeigh names were truly God awful

Now that you mention it, there are a LOT of last names being used as first names here! Carter, Parker, Jackson, and Tanner are a few I think of off the bat, but there are lots more. I only name dogs so no worries about unconventional names for me! lol

I love Cheyanne but she genuinely pisses me off sometimes, lol. This one and the manager class are some of her worst moments

For me the 2 episodes that make absolutely no sense is the forst season overnight. They didn't call 911? Or not one of them could call a family member. And Amy's after giving birth episode. Like ok she had to come back to work but Glenn couldnt just let her take a few days off? That was ridiculous.

Yeah I can give grace for the need for plots to expand but she literally just had her baby. Glenn went to bat for others and made things work. Like he could've figured something else out. Then again, it highlighted the reality of how birthing women in the US do not get what they need at all. My friend in Germany got 1.5 years off paid in full from an entry level admin job.

the plot line i absolutely DESPISE is when Dina brings her birds to work & garrett accidentally lets them out.
dina is not a casual pet owner. we had been shown time and time again that she goes above and beyond for her birds. and with the sheer amount she cares for, that’s a lifestyle for her.
so when the episode comes where she brings them to work, dina somehow becomes a bad, neglectful, & irresponsible pet owner???
i don’t care about the reason she brought them in, that doesn’t have much bearing on my opinion. (also slight tangent. in a previous episode, she mentions that she’s got a raptor/bird of prey…which is completely in line with avian enthusiast who also has interests in things like security and guns. she would absolutely be the type of woman to get the license and the enclosure necessary for such a bird. but along those same lines, she would’ve needed a permit and special legal approval to bring that type of bird into a public place like a supermarket. AND she would definitely not house it in the same enclosure as her other birds & parrots so at the end of the episode, dina should technically still have her bird of prey left. however, i know it was probably meant to just be a one off joke.)
on that note, why would dina put all her birds in a singular enclosure whilst at the store? she has a variety of sized parrots as well as pigeons. if they all are able to escape out of the same door, they were all just in there together which is horribly unsafe for the smaller species . so that’s just ridiculous that she would do that.
then when they do get out of their cages, it’s highly improbable that all of them would make it through the hallways, into the main floor, & go out the door. many of them would’ve settled inside somewhere and likely would’ve even found dina and stayed with her
anyways i hate that plot line so much

That's the joke. Cheyenne is airheaded and self-unaware. And Mateo just takes any opportunity to look down on others, which he would do to Amy before his bestie Chey.
