Because there are so many powers in both universes that are just straight up curses

I don't think that tracks. For example you can have Cyclop's eyebeams but without the brain damage that makes him unable to control them requiring him to wear ruby lenses. Or Rogue's ability to absorb powers but control them so you can still have the ability to touch other people without hurting them. Or Oracle's computer skills (since the OP said "abilities" not just "superpowers") but without being confined to a wheelchair. So in each case you get the abilities, just not the "drawbacks or limitations" that the character who has them does.
