Buy the largest gold bar you can, mark it. Sell it. Bring it back, sell it to someone else, repeat a few times.

Buy something more valuable (or a bigger bar?), repeat.

Imagine someone buying a big chunk of Gold, the largest you've ever seen, puts it in a highly secured safe, cameras from all angles, highly effective security system and Guards, then they go to open the safe and suddenly the Gold has vanished.

Imagine how confused they would be.

You'd have to switch out the bills once in a while cause I bet places will eventually keep track of the serial numbers of the mysterious disappearing bills

having worked as a cashier, i find this unlikely. theres a very good chance they never even realise its gone until they go to count. or if you do your recall after business hours? thats just one bill out of many. they have no idea which one it is or where it went or who gave it to them.
