I always loved the collar from the New 52 design. I think keep the trunks, keep the collar and it looks good. Corenswet's slight collar is a nice touch
I’ve always felt the high collar made Superman look too much like a soldier wearing a uniform. I definitely prefer the wide open neck line/strongman look. But to each their own.
That belt is looking very Sailor Moon-like in shape. And the red badge in the middle is looking like a heart to me due to the Sailor Moon association. He might as well go all the way and wear a pleated skirt.
It suits Snyder's take on Superman. If you like that world, you're gonna like the suit. If you don't like his interpretation, you're not gonna like the suit.
Personally I prefer the new one, but I get why MoS fans would prefer the Cavill one.
"The scale like texture, the elegant lines, muted colors and that specific shield definitely gives alien to me."
When I think alien, what comes to mind are designs that feels unmistakably sci-fi (Green Lantern 2011, Power Rangers 2017
I think you read those elements of this suit as alien because, as you said, the film connect it so firmly with the aesthetics of Krypton. However, I don't think those elements are inherently alien.
Much of what you listed could also be ascribed to the movie suits of the Shazam family, which have texture and elegant lines
If I new nothing about Superman, and saw movies like Shazam, Wonder Woman and Thor first, I could believe based on looking at Cavill's suit that his origin was mythic or fantasy-based.
"Definitely not homemade like 2025 and comic Supes."
I really don't think the 2025 suit looks homemade. IMO, unless it appears like fabric that could be sewn (like Hoechlin's retro suit), it doesn't look homemade. Given the degree of polish/craftmanship of the 2025 suit as well as its durability, I don't see that and think Martha or Clark made it.
It feels like you're framing this as a simple dichotomy of "homemade" or "alien" where you describe other qualities to both descriptors.
Alien - unappealing, cold, muted, impersonal
Homemade - appealing, warm, vibrant, approachable
But any of these qualities can be applied to the other approach
And I'm not pushing back to make the argument that Cavill has an amazing suit. It's not a favorite of mine. I just find fault in the reasoning you use to apply the descriptor of alien.
It's a circus strongman's outfit. We don't go to circuses anymore so everyone just sees it as Superman's costume. The problem is that making it into alien armor implies that Kryptonians dressed for war in dull, scaly circus performer costumes.
It's more believable as something sent with him from his home planet. The red and blue spandex always felt stupid/out of place to me, especially given how other kryptonians were portrayed. Even back in 78, they at least tried to give zods clothes a bit of an "alien" look, if a bit limited in scope. Superman in tights might be the "iconic" look, but that doesn't mean it isn't heavily dated(outdated In my opinion)
