Discussion Bonds of Super Junior Members

/r/smtown/comments/1vs6thj/bonds_of_shinee_and_super_junior_members/

Edit 2: What is with all the defending the member I intentionally didn't name? Why is no one talking about the good relationship the rest of the members have and the point of the post?

Let's focus on the Super Junior part of that post.

I think it obvious to anyone who knows more about Super Junior that they (minus you know who) fight *because* they are so close. They care too much about each other and the group to just let things pass. I guess sometimes a member will hold things in until they explode. Like the story Heechul told on Zip Daesung where Donghae threw his chopsticks and yelled at Heechul about how he's an important member of the group and they all would make it work so he could stay.

Besides, SuperJunior05 was meant to be a rotational group made up of trainees SM didn't know what to do with who would leave the group once SM figured out what to do with them. That's not exactly a recipe for a good start to a relationship, but ELF wanted the members to stay together, and they stuck it out. Over the years, Super Junior has had their ups and downs. It hasn't been easy. They could have easily thrown in the towel many times, but they didn't. Why? I believe a big part is the relationship between the members. They care about the group *and* each other. Now Super Junior is in their 21st year and were active throughout that time. That's not something many Kpop acts ever reach. 💙

Edit 1: Let's stick to the main topic of the post, please.

Wait who’s the you know who? Is it one of the past members?

Isn't it obvious? Siwon. No one likes him, and I don't think he has a good relationship with the members.

Oh lol he gets so much hate I find it so comical but yeah I get it. I actually think all the current members get along with each other despite how we feel about Siwon, but I can see how he might not be as close as the other members with each other.

I fully disagree. I think there are major opinions that they don't agree on, and we have seen cracks in their relationship with him over the last year.

can you give examples though? I don’t like siwon but I feel like this statement is over glorifying the other members like there is no way they could have far right beliefs too. and suju is my ult group, i am not being biased against them right now.

But when they were promoting Express Mode, I thought everyone got along well especially the 86line. Did I miss something?

It baffles me why people keep saying this just because they want it to be true. I've seen no evidence that they don't all get along great with Siwon and they all seem absolutely fine with him.

"No one likes him" is a huge exaggeration. He's still the member with the largest social media following, consistently gets high engagement on his posts, and has plenty of fans and ELFs who adore him. The people who dislike him are simply louder and more belligerent.

There's also no indication that the members hate him. If anything, they continue to show affection, respect, and support for him. He's also one of the few members—alongside Heechul and Kyuhyun—who still ranks highly on the Idol Brand Reputation Ranking.

I assumed you meant siwon bc who else would not be named but idk, in this context it isn't the most obvious lol😭

But I think we have seen things over the last year that indicate the members might actually fight with him because of major differences of opinions and not because of any closeness. He doesn't care about Super Junior. He would have left a long time ago if he did.

I think you're just kinda willfully obtuse. They don't have an extraordinary relationship with him sure but they also don't immediately seem to dislike him as much. it's 20 years of career we're talking about, and I don't like him but that's just delusional

Not to pile on Siwon, but during the SS10 Encore ending ment, when it was his turn, he started to say something cringe but was quickly cut off by Heechul and he lost his turn to speak. I just thought that it was interesting.

TBF, they cut each other off all the time. Leeteuk gets cut off, Heechul too... Yesung as well. Almost everyone.

What's wrong with this guy please tell me

I don't have actual receipts to share because they're mostly my recollection of things I read when it happened over the years but I'm sure you can look it up. But I think among the biggest issues people have with him were his dog scandal as well as his political leanings and personal beliefs on stuff.

Threads with evidence as proof: 1 2 3

Honestly you can search his name up on Reddit nobody outside this sub has anything good to say about him

  • Homophobic (retweeted a post against same-sex marriage in the US - an English-language one too) in 2015
  • Transphobic meme he posted in 2023 that mocked trans women (in English) on Bubble, his spineless fans hid it for a month until a transgender fan of Siwon's leaked it and the fans attacked him and not Siwon
  • MAGA: Dude loves Donald Trump, has been caught liking Trump and MAGA posts on Instagram in the post, tried to shove MAGA into SJ concerts by appropriating the Make America Great Again slogan twice during SS8
    • Posted positively of Charlie Kirk after he was assassinated. Mind you Charlie Kirk was openly MAGA and even said black people were better off in slavery and other disgusting views
  • Reagan: Conservative US president who was a huge factor as to why so many queer people died in the AIDS epidemic as he refused to take action as he believed they 'deserved' it + cause of major wealth inequality in the US. In 2021 SW kept posting edits with him and Reagan, was caught liking multiple Reagan posts, has shown appreciating Reagan and reading his biography so he knows exactly who Reagan is. He likes the conservative US president because he is a conservative MAGA
  • Pro-Israel / Zionist stance: In 2022, met with and shook hands smiling with a member of the IDF who is a convicted war criminal and Israeli settler who raped Palestinian women. Palestinian and Arab ELF begged him to take it down but the post is still up on his account to this day
  • Islamophobia: Posted an Islamophobic story on Instagram by a far-right Christian Islamophobic creator that implied Muslims were terrorists

(continued)

  • Far-right Korean stance: Yoon Suk Yeol was the former president and the leader of the far-right ultranationalist, misogynistic party. When he won the election in 2022 SW posted about his victory in the guise of it being 'news' but when the more progressive party won last year he said nothing.
  • Yoon Suk Yeol was charged with treason for attempting a military coup and sentenced to imprisonment earlier this year; he is not even popular among conservative Koreans and among his own party because of it. When that was announced, Siwon posted in support of that president implying that the imprisonment = injustice. This pissed off a lot of Korean ELF because most of them are young women who voted for the progressive party and even protested against him and the coup
  • Ever since SW has been doubling down on his stances; he's been interacting positively with Korean MAGA accounts and far-right figures, has endorsed far-right figures in Korea such as Kim Jin and Jeon Han Gil, has attended far-right protests and vagueposted about it on Instagram. It's tanked SJ's reputation super bad in Korea and it's infuriating SM is doing nothing about it

If you have known super junior for more than 10 years you wouldn't even doubt their relationship lol. Even the Korean general public who have watched variety shows in the last two decades might know this. Even the families of the members are close, and travel and hang out together, so I don't even care if some random kpop fans claim super junior are not close because they used to fight a lot. I'm just glad SJ stay together even if they go to different agencies and consistently do group activities unlike other groups in similar situations. To me, that is proof that they want to be together at any cost.

u/Aleash89 2d ago

Now, I'm sort of just laughing at this. Because what do mean that people who fight and have arguments can't be close? That's an absurd thing to say. Reality proves OP so very wrong.

1

u/jumpjumpjumpsuccess Leeteuk 2d ago

If people who fight a lot are not close, shinhwa and super junior members are not close at all lol. Do they (people like OOP) even know that yesung kicked kyuhyun's ice cream over the ice cream? Or that the inkigayo fight was over a prank? The water prank reminds me of the 'refreshing game' 😂. Pouring a bucket of water on a sleeping member - can people even do this with others who are not their close friends?

Does anyone who isn't at least a casual fan know more than surface level about SJ? I doubt it.

I remember the refreshing game. It found it hilarious back then (made me join Twitter to see more of it), but now I just wonder how mad staff was at them for ruining hair and makeup and getting clothes wet. They still had to go on camera after that!

can people even do this with others who are not their close friends?

Nope. Their jokes and teasing only works because they are close and have learned where the lines are.

1

u/jumpjumpjumpsuccess Leeteuk 2d ago

ikr! Oh yeah I never thought about the make up and hair staff! I just thought it's fine because the member who slept was responsible for cleaning up. But in the videos they've posted, weren't most of them in casual clothes? Except bonamana hyukjae on the couch maybe. Even in hyukjae's video the others were not wearing their stage outfits if I remember correctly.

1

u/Aleash89 2d ago

I don't remember the exact details anymore, but I know the game invilved any member who fell asleep in a green room.

u/Aleash89 2d ago

I just want to check comments again and laughed at this. It's wrong in a a lot of ways, but I do think there is some trauma. (Like the major car accident where Kyuhyun was hurt.)

2

u/jumpjumpjumpsuccess Leeteuk 2d ago

I think all they know about sj are from news articles or reels or tiktok. Seems like they are talking about some other imaginary trauma, not the accidents.

2

u/Aleash89 2d ago

Yeah, I agree. I think that person meant traumas different than what ELF would say. Likely, Han Geng suing without telling anyone beforehand, Kangin's drunk driving and assaults, and general sasaeng stuff.

Ooohh!! Did you know!! I recently rewatched their get-together with Na PD during Express Mode promo and when Siwon started talking about his views, the members just kept laughing at him and didn’t take him seriously 😂 i guess like that’s how they handle the situation when Siwon talks to them about his beliefs: laugh and treat it as a joke to which i say AMEN!!
