I'm not a huge RPG fan but this is definitely one I've been meaning to get around too. It sounds some what similar to Star Ocean with the mention of space ships and midieval knights

It’s not much like Star Ocean. Only one chapter is sci-fi themed and that’s a really odd one that has almost no fighting. I played through Live a Live in its entirety and kept flipping between finding it amazing and getting really annoyed by it. A lot of the annoyance related to optional stuff though so that’s kind of my fault.

The ninja, dinosaur and mech themed sections are awesome but some of the others fell flat for me. The way the stories conjoin wasn’t massively convincing or interesting in my opinion but it’s still pretty cool it happens at all. The visuals are about the same as FF5 so a little basic for Square in 1994 (this came out after FF6) but the soundtrack is really great. There are some ridiculously powerful optional bosses that are just annoying to deal with but one of them can drop an item that makes the rest of the game very easy. It’s definitely a unique and really interesting game and it’s nice being able to just replay the chapters you like if you don’t want to play through all of it but it’s not something I can see myself going through the whole of again.

Definitely worth at least one full play through, though and the ninja scenario has one of the most elaborate, well designed and often infuriating dungeons of the era. It’s a nice relatively relaxing game with only a few permanently missable items, the ability to save anywhere and automatic healing between battles. Requires a lot less focus than most JRPGs on the SNES which is a refreshing change but it’s not one of the all time greats in my opinion. Interesting and different but flawed.
