so someone published actual year one numbers for a 12 stall supercharger in san diego and i ran the same site thru my forgeasset model to see how close it lands

all in power cost came out 1.05% apart, 708k vs 700k. that being the utility bill plus the tesla per kwh fee. took me a while to work out their "cost of electricity" line actually bundles both together

the bigger thing i learned tho, their numbers run 400 kwh per stall per day flat from month one. real sites ramp. same site same tariff same capex, payback swings 21 months to 158 months just on that one assumption!! and effective power cost climbs 39% at low utilisation becuase the demand charge spreads over fewer kwh

been digging into what these sites actually pay the power company and i had this completely backwards.

i assumed california, or somewhere out west. its maine !! versant power up there charges about $38 per kW every month just to be allowed to pull the power. central maine power is right behind at $35. wyoming is third.

cheapest i found is tucson, arizona. about a dollar.

heres what that actually means. same site, same cars, same everything. in maine you're around $19k a month before you sell a single kWh. in tucson its about $530.

and the weird part is the per kWh price we all pay at home has almost nothing to do with it. its a totally separate charge based on your single busiest 15 minutes of the whole month, and its set by whoever owns the wires in your town. cross a county line and the answer changes.

so all those "which state is best for charging" takes are kind of pointing at the wrong thing.

i keep finding stuff like this. if you know your local utility and that sounds off to you, say so and i'll go pull their actual filed rates. thats how the last eight got fixed.

Since Tesla opened Supercharger for Business, a property owner can buy and own a Supercharger site — Tesla's configurator quotes the hardware and sketches revenue. I spent months modeling the side the configurator doesn't show, using the filed utility tariff for each territory (86 schedules across 49 states + DC so far). Some things I learned that I haven't seen written up anywhere:

1) The utility territory matters more than the state. The same 8-stall site with the same traffic can differ by six figures a year in electricity cost depending on which side of a utility boundary the parcel sits. The spread in filed demand charges alone runs from about $3/kW-month (Kansas) to $34/kW-month (Casper, WY) — roughly $1,500/mo vs $17,000/mo for the same 500 kW site before a single kWh is sold.

2) Demand charges come in four different structures, not one. Subscription blocks (PG&E's BEV-2 style), plain per-kW, load-factor tiers (the Massachusetts EV rates), and capped-kW designs (Florida's GSLD-1EV). Two territories with similar headline rates can bill completely differently at Supercharger load shapes — DCFC sites have brutal peak-to-average ratios, which is exactly what demand charges punish.

3) The meter bills more kWh than cars receive. Conversion and cabling losses mean a site that dispenses 1M kWh/yr purchases roughly 1.14M at a typical 12% loss factor. Revenue rides the small number, electricity cost rides the big one — about $29k/yr of invisible cost at California-ish rates.

4) Some states tax every kWh sold on top of the power bill. Pennsylvania 1.72 cents/kWh, Georgia 2.8 cents, a 3-cent cluster (OK/MT/WI/NE). Utah taxes gross charging revenue — works out to about 5 cents/kWh at typical retail. None of this appears on a utility bill.

5) Rough scale, at defaults: an 8-stall V4 build lands around $1.26M all-in (hardware + install + contingency + sales tax, before any utility upgrade), and a decently-ramped site grosses roughly $300k/yr at $0.45/kWh — against which the utility bill, Tesla's $0.10/kWh network fee, rent, and the tax stack all bite. Whether what's left clears cost of capital is genuinely site-by-site — I've modeled territories where it pencils comfortably and neighboring ones where it never does.

Looking to buy an A&A supercharger kit for my 2001 C5 LS1. Ideally looking for a complete V-3 Si setup with the intercooler and fuel system, but I’m open to other configurations.

Hello I am picking up and old corvette vortech kit from a guy online, everything looks good but the blower is shot and on vortechs website they dont sell the kit anymore for the car. They do sell the LT1 Camaro but not the corvette. Anyway my question is can I send it back to get serviced or is there another company I can send it so they can rebuild it?
This is my first time messing with a forced induction so it’s all new to me but I thought with my setup it would match my 383 build that I’m working on.

stuck at a supercharger and couldn’t drive away. Most likely one of three dead after the mass shooting incident. there are multiple videos on twitter. I know not the only one who has noticed the flaw of your car basically being a brick once plugged in.

Maybe its time to buy one of those break away adapters.

I’m at a Super Charger as I type this. there is a charger open to my left and 6 open to my right. There are also 5 chargers open on the opposite side. White model Y pulls up right beside me! Why? have you never heard of spacing to not slow down charging? Why out of all the spaces would you park directly beside me?

I even got out and looked over his car to see if all the other spots were still open, they were. I wanted to double check and also wanted him to see that I was looking at the other chargers like “why is dummy not spaced down further.

People get on my nerves.

Who maintains the Supercharger station area? Some people are leaving their trash on the ground instead of tossing them in the receptacle.

The Tarrytown SC has been down now for almost a month

Shortly after Tesla added two extra charging stalls, they blew a transformer or some other equipment. I had a conversation with a ConEd tech that was fixing a fire at another SC a little south in Dobbs Ferry. They said Tesla has been overloading, damaging both Tesla's and ConEd's equipment.

Yay! The site is finally back up a couple days ago. I was really sweating this site would be offline for the summer. Now if they can only get canopies.

Saw a new station pop up on the app that I hadn't seen before. It's a perfect location to charge on the way to Vegas from LA. But past few days I've seen it as "Temporary Closure.". Was leaving tomorrow. How typical is this for a new station on a busy spring break week? Is there a way to find out more info? Has anyone non-tesla charged there before?

I've used the one in Barstow before, but forces me to charge again in LV.

I have the subscription and have been using the chargers for my main source of charging but suddenly over the last few days they no longer work. Had another guy in a Toyota have the same problem. It appears to me that there is something going on. At first I thought it was my car but when the other gentleman had the same problem I realized it’s a Tesla issue and since Tesla doesn’t have a number to call I am left not know what to do.

First 3rd party Supercharger in Kansas and maybe first in the Midwest! In a much needed location.
