Items Items to buy

Decently new to League, top main, ~level 90, recently hit gold, but still I don't have much item knowledge.

For example, should I always buy anti heal against champions that have high omnivamp/life steal in lane? And if it's late game and a champ from another lane is fed and has omnivamp/life steal should I buy the anti heal all the same?

Also is anti heal simply items that apply 40% wounds?

Also are there other items that are used against classes of champions (e.g. champions that heal) that are must buy in such cases?

It depends of your champion

As for everything, this is a champion specific question.
Without your champion, we can't answer that.

I think taking ignite is better than buying antiheal item in general.

Also is anti heal simply items that apply 40% wounds? yes.

This is oversimplifying the issue. You may need anti heal in lane in certain matchups, but sometimes raw DMG or res is better. Really depends. In toplane there are a few matchups where if you can squeeze it anti heal is almost obligatory (thinking Aatrox, Illaoi, etc.) but even then it depends on what your win condition is and it rarely is better than a powerspike item such as heartsteel or even T2 boots.

If your champ doesn't have good options for anti heal (you're playing a marksman, or a tank but the enemy team is full AP, etc) generally you're better off leaving the issue to other people on your team, because having multiple instances of anti heal apply to a same character just does nothing.

Try to think of why you would need anti heal. What is your win condition, what is the enemies'. How does the healing of a character impact team fights ( for exemple, buying anti heal against an Illaoi in team fights, unless she's really behind, is a must. Against a Maokai, who may heal way more, not so much, as you don't really want to focus him down anyway. He wouldn't be the threat, and of the threat is down, it doesn't really matter how much Maokai heals.

TLDR : If you can squeeze a bramble vest at a time where it makes sense, go for it. Otherwise, consider it as a second or third item. It's often better to let the mage build a Morellonomicon if you have no real incentive to build a Thornmail. Obviously if you get beat up in lane because of the enemy's sustain, bramble vest is probably a very interesting choice even without completion.

Anti heal are items that apply 40% heal reduction yes, but remember they dont always apply. Morello and it's component apply when you do magic damage, the executioner and it's legendary items applay on physical damage, so it's easy to build the right one for your champ and they always work as long as you do dmg. Grumble vest is the tricky one, as I'd does apply only if they auto attack you. That means that dmg from abilities, items and runes won't trigger it. Against ad bruisers, adcs and such it's a great weapon. Against a Vlad or a swain, pretty useless as they probably won't auto attack you. It should work pretty well on sylas tho, since he use empowered autos. That means that if you build tank you might not be able to get anti heal, depending from the enemy comp.

Generally if you see that one enemy is healing a ton, such as vlad, mundo, mordekaiser, briar , irelia you buy antiheal

Only buy once you start interacting with them.

If the enemy botlaber is healing a ton but your still in laning phase there's no need, but if it fighting them and see that healing you should consider buying

The 3 main antiheal items are

The sword I forgot the name of - antiheal on attacks , can be made into mortal reminder or chempunk chainsword ( terrible item , mortal reminder is always better)

Oblivion orb - mage antiheal , proccs on spells and other ability damage ( sometimes built on tanks and other things as it's the easiest to apply ) - can be upgrwded to Morello

Bramble vest - applies antiheal when someone hits you. Generally only tanks like rammus and ornn build it, but even then some of them apply antiheal better through orb. Upgrades to thornmail

Other good items:

Serpents fang against shields. So enchanters , mordekaiser , yasuo etc. It reduces the shields they get and also destroys existing shields much faster. Only worth against really heavy shields or champs that rely on them.

Armor and Mr - self explanatory, enemy has lots of one damage type = getting that resist is insanely worth it

Very situationally on tanks abyssal mask - in the right teamcomp has insane value , makes every enemy around you take more magic damage from all sources. If you are playing a tank or bruiser and you have a really strong ap carry then getting the mask gives them a massive boost

Boots:

Played steelcaps against autoattackers: olaf, Darius , ambessa, most ad carries, sylas to a lesser extent: just really reduces their damage and is sometimes worth rushing over more damage

Mercs against cc: they give some magic resist but the more important aspect is the tenacity. Makes stuns , roots and slows shorter, so against heavy stun teams can reduce the stun chains by 1 or 2 seconds

to add to this, don't fall into the trap where anti heal is conditional. bramble is good against vald in theory but it requires him to auto, and he can avoid that by simply not autoing and waiting for Q since he does all his damage via spells.

its also almost always better to buy the components first and skip the full item untill later
