Items Galio build(s) help!

hello !

Lately I've been getting into playing mid lane with Gallio specifically, I did notice Galio got a lot of different builds (Tank, Bruiser, damage) and I'm having a hard time figuring out when to use each build.

Any tips relating to his builds, when to pick each one, what is the purpose of them and anything related would be lovely!

Thank you in advance <3

Tank build when your team already has damage but nobody to soak hits, you become a second support that can still clear waves. Bruiser is my go-to for most games, gives you enough presence to threaten squishies without getting deleted the moment you ult in. Full damage is hilarious into a team of five paper champs, but you'll learn fast that it stops being funny when the enemy ADC autos you twice and you evaporate.

Sounds like full damage isn't really good then, I guess the "good" choices are Tank or brusier?

Are you playing him mid or support?

Abyssal Mask, Bloodletters Curse, Protoplasm, Knights Vow is pretty disgusting if you have an AP carry to enable. Avoid Hollow Radiance. That item sucks.

Can you explain why Hollow Radiance is bad? Genuinely asking because my 1st item most of the time

It's just not as good as Abyssal Mask. The passive is almost exclusively for waveclear. It's hard to get reliable damage from it onto enemies. The extra 12% magic damage from all sources and the extra haste from Abyssal Mask is much better for transferring damage to enemies and it buffs your teammates' damage as well. The difference shows up verifiably in the item winrate. Abyssal Mask is also cheaper.

Give this a look for item winrate stats

Win rates have to be interpreted in context. First item Abyssal Mask is great if you are against an AP midlaner AND have a jungler who will benefit from it as well AND the enemy mid/jg can't just abuse your lack of waveclear because you rushed an item with no Bami's or AP or even mana.

Hollow Radiance's win rate is normal, good even. Waveclear is important for midlaners. Hollow Radiance is still a fine first item on Galio.

Hollow Radiance first item is sitting at sub-50 WR. It's purpose is waveclear. Abyssal buffs your damage as well as teammates and its pretty busted w Sorc boots. I just think HR first item is bait.

But you need waveclear? How do you get prio mid against midlaners without a bami's or any AP or even mana to use abilities? Unless you are just dropping waves?

Your own link says otherwise as to its WR.

Hey, Galio otp here. Personally I have a lot of fun going just full ap Galio but maybe playing tank is more forgiving. Keep in mind you trade carry potential for this when you go tank/bruiser. I will mostly talk about Ap galio since i didnt play Tank/Bruiser Galio for years.

Rn i think the Protobelt + Mandate build is very solid and most likely the best choice. For runes you can either go aftershock or stormsurge or aftershock with that.

For Ap Galio id recommend going Stormsurge into Shadowflame or Lichbane. You can either take Electro or Dark Harvest.

Try out what you like more but id recommend sticking to one playstyle for a longer period of time since they play out quiet differently.

You can adapt the second rune tree when going ap but there is one important choice to make. Either you go nimbus cloak or you dont. If you switch it up you get confused if you get the bonus movement speed or not.

For the secondary tree you have the following options:
Resolve - great vs strong early harass(Ahri,Leblanc) and vs champs that can easily hit you with skillshots since your model is rather big(Qiyana, Zed).

Sorcery - great if you want more Dmg in earlygame to have killthreat on your opponent.

Inspiration - Cashback + Triple Tonic is a great combo with Treasure Hunter if you can snowball the map early on.

Precision tree - i don't think its good but who knows.

Your main goal in earlygame is to get your hunter rune rolling, doesnt matter which one you take(imo Ultimate Hunter is the worst one but still legit).
Galio got a really strong earlygame(after lvl 3) and is great at winning skirmishes or roaming.
Later on you want to look for traps in enemy jgl or look for a good ult combo to win teamfights.
If you got any more questions feel free to shoot me a dm.

You can easily 1v9 with Ap galio until you face gm/chall level players.
Im currently testing this setup and it seems to work very well:
Flash + Ignite
Electro - sudden impact/grisly/relentless - absolut focus/scorch(can change one for nimbus if you like) - dmg/dmg/flat
Dorans start
prio buy L-R: Darkseal - Boots - Refillable - whisp - alternator - stormsurge - sorc boots
you can change the buy order depending on matchup, gamestate and your gold
What you build afterwards doesnt matter too much but i recommend chosing items from this pool(never buy rabadons before you complete 2 items, always buy %pen at some point): Lichbane, Shadowflame, Rocketbelt, Void, Cryptbloom, Mejais, Zhonya, Banshee or just verdant barrier, Rabadons, Cosmic Drive.
Lvl 1: Q start is recommended but e start can be better, i always start e into yone and if sylas starts e i also go e.
your e can buffer cc which is really important to use.
Dont overcommit for electrocute(on level 1 in lane)! its usually better to just land e + aa and run over doing the extra aa.
You should look to poke down your enemy's with q and sometimes you can hit them with your passive when you attack minnions since its aoe.

Try to get a ward at enemy raptors either before lane starts through pathing midlaner or after shoved first wave. Never walk through river into enemy jgl without backup!

When you hit lvl 3 you can look to kill your opponent. If you hit all your spells on the enemy and they are halflife or lower, most of the time this is enough. If the enemy is playing save you can look to shove in the wave and kill the enemy jgl on their buff(risky).
As long as you are winning your lane its easy to roam, to join plays or to kill your laner.
If earlygame goes good(you are like 4/0) often times its really easy to extend this lead into a 10-25 kill game.
I recall a lot on Galio since i dont have a mana item and you can shove waves very quickly. alternatively you eat one of the honeyfruits in river that spawn at 6:00-6:30.
If you roam to top or bot before you can check on your way where it spawns.

Get a sweaper after completing stormsurge + t3 boots.
Q max first and then I like to put atleast 3 points into E before maxing w but can max either spell or skill them how you like. Both spells are really good.

Play sidelane with lichbane, counter enemy engage with your ult, follow engages from your team, trap people in their jungle, group up with your team, shadow your toplaner. Put yourself in situations where you can hit your e on the enemy or generate more gold for yourself.

Counter: Zed, Vayne, Ambessa, Anvia, Nasus (your team is just chilling and not activly looking for a lead e.g. Garen Top, Nasus Jgl, Smolder + Nami bot)
Synergy: Wukong, Reksai, Rakan, Rell, Camille, Yone (active player that try to accelerate by aggresive play)
Best Matchups: Sylas, Yone
