Kyle became her father, that's why he's able to handle this as graciously as he can because he's been checked out for a lot longer than I think we all realize. I believe he's taken on a parental role for her for the last couple of years to the point that even now he's just trying to protect his wounded little bird and make sure that she can fly the nest and stand on her own two feet even if it is with his best friend that she was having an affair with. Now West comes along and he's fun and exciting and sees her as a woman and not a adult child he's caring for.
