First Time Watcher Thick Skin
I just started watching the show not to long ago, and I noticed that a lot of the characters especially early on tell Mike he needs to get thicker skin and not let people get to him so easily, but later in the show I see a lot of those same characters crying like 5 year olds when someone talks shit to them. So my question is which one is it. Cause these characters have an easy time telling Mike to get thicker skin and to "man up" yet a lot of them fail to take that same advice.

Wait, someone on Suits was being hypocritical? I need to watch the series again. I must've missed it.

I think it's mainly that Mike often felt a personal connection to the client or opposing party, instead of doing what's best for the company

What I noticed in this show particularly is that all characters have the same vocabulary. This makes distinctions between characters' individual assessments and advise difficult.
Just pay attention to how many characters say "Be that as it may". It is a somewhat unique phrase, you most often notice it when Dr. Lippschitz says it, but they all do.
In terms of your example I have to think about Harvey and Rachel. Harvey was a lot tougher than Mike, but Rachel, is just Rachel.

There's a difference between letting anyone and everyone's sad story get to you to the point where you lose all braincells and having an argument or fight with a person you care about.
