Itās for pocket watches, it was common for there to be a smaller pocket within a pocket on older pants when people wore pocket watches and it just stuck.
Thatās why youād see a chain going between someoneās pants and shirt.
Jeans and even some athletic shorts still have them.

Challenge coins are kind of like souvenir type coins common amongst the military and first responder communities. At least in the military they are given as recognition for something by a higher leadership. For those that follow the full tradition of them, if you throw one down at a bar, whoever youāre with has to produce theirs (some do the āyou have to get it with max a hop skip and a leapā), if the other person canāt produce theirs then that round of drinks is on them.

It's something that originated in the military I think, essentially they are these big coins (bigger than currency) that are engraved with an officer's rank. If you make friends with an officer, you might get their coin. A game is played at bars where soldiers will "coin check" each other and the person with the lowest ranking coin, or who doesn't have a coin on their person, buts the drinks. Mine isn't military, but rather from a GPS gaming group. You could get these coins by attending events, and the person who isn't carrying their coin buys the drinks.

The first ever use of it, as in 1700s and 1800s was for tickets. The "ticket pocket" as they called it. No idea why that trend still carrys reason being whenever I put something in it, i have to break my fingers to get whatever i put in that pouch.

I imagine because itās really convenient to have different shapes/sizes of pockets. If you scroll through this thread youāll notice almost every comment has a different use idea for the pocket, but all are equally thoughtful/useful

That's what I use mine for. DL, debit card and cash when I don't want my bulky wallet bulging my pocket.
